Our Creeping Tom

Our neighbor diagonally behind us (or "caddy corner" as DH says) is a creeper. DH says he has been arrested for being a peeping tom before. Our next door neighbor is like 91 and has a pool. She has a chain-link fence, he has no fence. He cleared out a patch of bushes from his kitchen window into her backyard. Eww. She lets us use her pool whenever we want. Last time we were in it, he came into his backyard "pretending" to do work (he does not take care of his property at all- it looks like a run-down shack because it needs some paint and the grass is always way long and dying) so he could check us out.

He has been coming into our backyard. We don't have a fence. I have never seen him, but DH caught him once. Our dog was barking and the neighbor was back there trying to throw a ball with him, but the dog was not interested (and usually the dog loooves his ball)- who the heck does that?!

There are some trees and bushes in the corner of our yard that touches his. He cleared a path to walk through over there. It is on our side of the yard. DH mowed the lawn a few days ago and put a bunch of tree branches blocking the path. This morning they were there. This evening I went out with the dogs and all the branches were thrown in our yard, clearing the path again.

What should I do? DH works nights and I am home alone a lot. This creeps me out. We can't afford to put up a fence right now. Should I put up some motion-activated lights and try and catch him in the act? DH is the assertive one. I don't even know what I would say if I caught him. I could maybe call the police and put a trespass warning on him- I don't want to start a huge fight with a neighbor- but I don't want him in our yard either.

Re: Our Creeping Tom

  • Yuck, what a creeper!  I would put up the motion detecting lights, maybe that will deter him a bit and alert you if he is there.

get motion lights and a camera.  and eventually, add a fence to that area.  start collecting your dogs' feces and put it at the end of the creepers path in your yard, or get a cat and start dumping the litter there.

or just build a compost there?

  • I clean our back yard out every now and then, or it takes care of itself when DH mows the lawn, but there was definately a flattened pile not too far from the opening, so ha ha!
