I'm normally very regular - the first week of the month Aunt Flow comes. I've missed the last 2 months though. I took a pregnancy test a month ago, and nothing. But I'm starting to get concerned - not that I'm preggers, but why the hell aren't I getting my period.
I know stress or weight loss/gain can screw with you. Have any of you experienced that? I did lose 8lbs from the beginnig of the year until recently (though I've probably gained it back the past month binging on chocolate
. )
What should I do? Gyno?

I vote POAS now

My Bio
Dude, I am the queen of irregular periods. It sucks! If I haven't gotten AF within 60 days I call my doc and they prescribe me a round of Provera (which is progesterone) which will kick start AF.
There are a number of reasons as to why you are irregular. First being your KTFU (go take a test! Because we all want to know - haha!). Second it could be you are ovulating late and thirdly you could not be ovulating at all.
Basically there are three parts of your cycle. The first part is called the follicular phase, the second part is ovulation, and the third phase is the luteal phase. The follicular phase in a typical 28 day cycle will last for 14 days, followed by ovulation (which is short lived - an egg only lives for 12 to 24 hours). Ovulation is followed by the Luteal phase, which typically is 14 days in a normal 28 day cycle (however, this can vary from 10-16 days and still be considered normal).
The only part of your cycle that can REALLY vary is the follicular phase. During the follicular phase stress, sickness, weight loss, etc. can delay ovulation. The length of ovulation and the luteal phase don't vary in length (well the luteal phase can vary cycle to cycle, but usually doesn't more than a day or two), so if you period is late you are either A) pregnant
ovulated late or C) didn't ovulate at all. Late ovulation is normal and it does happen to most women from time to time.
Another issue could be you are not ovulating at all. And you can even get your period even if you aren't ovulating. FYI - most women have one or two anovulatory cycles a year (I thought this was important to mention that this too can be "normal"). However, I have had many cycles where I don't ovulate at all and this isn't considered normal, I have something called PCOS and this is something my OB/GYN are working on.
Did that clear up any of your answers? I have a super bad headache and I am not sure if my words are making sense. LOL. If you have any other questions let me know! Unfortunately I know WAAAYYYYY to much about my body. Ha.

We aren't TTC right now, but most likely very, very soon. So that is why I'm concerned. I haven't missed a period in years. Sucks for the shear fact we do want to TTC in the near future.

Wow. Thanks for all this information. I will POS when I get back in town and will hopefully get my period soon. No point stressing over it, because that won't help matters.

My post-BCP periods were very regular, too ... until about a month before we started TTC. I had two very weird cycles - having two periods in about three months - but I was still watching my CM. We ended up getting pregnant in that fourth month, after all of the wonky-ness, although originally the doctor's office estimated my due date based on my LMP, which was totally wrong because of the wacky cycles. I don't know if my body was reacting to my subconscious stress about gearing up for TTC or what, but I just *tried* to relax about it even though I thought it totally sucked that it was happening just when I actually wanted/needed to be regular for once!

I'm definietly not stressed about TTC, but it could be stress over work. Who knows.
