My husband and I are moving to Brookline from Portland, OR in 6 days and could not be more thrilled! He works for Trader Joes and I'll be going to grad school at Boston University. We've been to the city many times but was wondering if any locals had favorite places to eat or tips about daily life in the city. Thanks!

Re: New to Boston
Welcome!
I have lots of friends that work for TJ's and I work at BU! What does he do for TJs?
Some great restaurants include ten tables (cambridge and jamaica plain), Vinnie's at night (on broadway in somerville), north end in general for italian (Carmen and strega are faves)
Also - def check out the campus trolley for lunch at BU!
Welcome!
What are you studying at BU? I'm finishing up my thesis for my masters in music ed.
There are so many great places to eat. What kind of foods do you like?
As far as tips living in the city... the "T" is your friend, especially living in Brookline.
Wow, lots of people moving this way lately! Welcome to the city and to the board!
Places to eat...so many options, so many price ranges
I guess I'll list a few in the city or nearby that I like.
Splurge: No. 9 Park, Mooo, O Ya (sushi), Salts (Cambridge, but that's not far)
Reasonable: Hong Kong Eatery, Hei La Moon for dim sum, Jo Jo Taipei, Shanghai Gate (I swear I do know places that serve things other than Asian cuisine, but that's what's coming to mind in your area)
Welcome! I live in Brookline too and go to that TJ's. It is crazy busy in there all the time, so at least your DH won't get bored! There are a few good places right in Coolidge corner (where TJ's is) and a few blocks down.
For a nicer meal-Lineage (coolidge corner) or The Fireplace (Washington Square-I think 2 T stops down from coolidge). Excellent chinese- Golden Temple (washington square) . You will want to get a charlie card to ride the train and can probably get a discount through school. Its a great area-you will love it.
