WDYT Flying with spouse

Our landlords' daughter never flies with her husband when they leave their children at home.  They always take separate flights incase something happens to the other one. Would you consider flying on two different flights?

IMO I know planes crash but the latest stats say you're more likely to get injured on an escalator rather than be on a plan that crashes.  I just don't think we could justify doing this.  We don't have kids so that may change my opinions later.  I also suppose we probably won't be flying much without kids.

Dh's response was well, if your plane crashes I'll spend the rest of m life wondering if I should have been on it too.

Re: WDYT Flying with spouse

  • For me I think I rather be on the same plane as my dh and kids. I don't like flying but you are more likely to be in a car accident then a plane accident.

  • I think that is just a bit too much. Yeah I'm sure something could happen, but seriously?

Do they travel that often not as a family?

I don't think I ever would have thought that way or would think that way.

  • I think they travel several times a year on business without children.  I believe when they do fly with kids they go together.

    Ditto this.

  • My friends and I had this exact talk the other night.

I would fly with DH, but my friend and her husband wont fly together without their kids.  They don't have much family who they would trust with the kids, so they don't want to risk anything.  They are flying overseas alone this summer.  I would much rather have DH on the flight with me!

  • My friend's parents were like this.  I don't think we would fly separately, though.  I mean, if you're going to go to the effort to fly in separate planes to avoid dying in the same crash, then shouldn't you also go to the effort to drive in separate cars?  You're much more likely to be in a car crash than a plane crash.
