Inexpensive and/or homemade gifts
DH and I spend a lot (for our budget anyways) on gifts for people each year. I'm thinking of just giving our moms cookies for mothers day this year and do the same for everyone's birthdays as well. However, I'm thinking that after we give the same person cookies for each special occasion, they may want something different. What are your favorite go to gifts for bdays, mothers, fathers day, etc that are inexpensive, or homemade? Any other ideas??
Re: Inexpensive and/or homemade gifts
It's not homemade but my mom and my MIL have both been getting magazine subscriptions for Mother's Day (per their request) for the last few years. MIL gets Real Simple ($24/year) and my mom gets Martha Stewart Living (free with my Coke points; I drink an absurd amount of diet Coke).
One year (before I started giving the magazines) I did a semi-DIY flower arrangement for MIL. I bought a cute vase at the Dollar Tree and picked up a bouquet of flowers Mother's Day morning at BJ's. I trimmed the flowers and put them into the vase for her; it was less than $20 total for a nice arrangement.
I've never head of Coke points. I'll have to check it out since DH also drinks an absurd amount of Diet coke!
There's a code inside the box on a case of cans or inside the lid on a bottle of virtually every Coke product. You enter them online at www.mycokerewards.com and you can redeem them for various things like magazine subscriptions or Coke swag.
Maybe I'm cheap, but I don't buy birthday gifts for anyone but DH & James. Everyone else gets cards- if I remember! Even if I tried to buy my parents gifts, they'd tell me they don't need anything and if they want to do something, a visit with James would be plenty. They know we have no money and don't need anything anyway!
At Christmas I give neighbors and a few others homemade gifts such as fancy truffles, spiced nuts, decorated sugar/ gingerbread cookies, and mint fudge. I've also thought about powdered cocoa mix, muffins, and breakfast type bread. As you can see, I'm big into food gifts.
This is pretty much me exactly. Plus both of our families now do Yankee Swaps for Christmas, so we really don't do many gifts at all.
Ditto this! And now that I'm a Momma I join the rest of my siblings in forgoing presents for myself so the kids can get more :P
Along with the food items Erika mentioned, I'll make vanilla, spice blends (think easy Italian Seasoing, Taco seasoning etc. in cute jars)
If I want to give photo albums to people I'll wait to the holidays too
Like wedding albums I did for Xmass, Mother's Day we're giving Caroline's first year etc.
