Post-BCP Pill Acne... Remedy?

Please tell me someone has a good remedy for post-BCP acne. It has been 2 months and I already can't take it anymore.  I tried some Neutrogena products and they haven't helped.  I was using Cetaphil as my cleanser and Clean & Clear astringent, didn't do anything.  I even got a facial last week.  I still cannot get rid of these pimples.  They are not all over but I have one that I have literally had for 2 weeks that will not go away.  Then 2 more sprouted yesterday.  It's so awful!!!

Re: Post-BCP Pill Acne... Remedy?

  • In high school i used proactive and it was GREAT!. and i had a friend who used corn starch (i am 95% sure) and water and made a paste and wiped it all over the problem areas. it worked great for her.

  • My skin has been a mess for the past few months, and although I've been off BCP for a while now I'm still blaming the skin problems on it. I've been using Roc daily cleanser and lotions on my face. It's helped, but I'm thinking of trying Proativ. I've never had issues with my skin like this before so I'm a little freaked out by it. I used to use Cetaphil as well and I loved it, now...it does nothing for me. Ugggghh. GL and if you find anything that works lemme know.

  • I'd say go to the dermatologist. Unfortunately to get rid of mine I had to go on a regime they put me on which included an antibiotic called Doryx. It helped the best! I have NOTHING on my face now.

  • I wish I had an answer.  My face is a mess post-BC and post-baby (yes, still).  I'm also thinking of giving Proactiv a try.  At this point I'll try about anything but, I do not want to go on antibiotic therapy.

  • Neutrogena Skin-ID was great for me. You have to order it online though. IMO it worked better than proactive and was much more gentle on your skin. Proactive worked for me for a little while but after awhile it stopped working as well. I don't know if my skin just got used to it? Also, proactive ruined my towels....they all ended up with bleach like stains.

  • Ive suffered with acne issues since i was 10. Ive done all sorts of creams, lotions, antiobiotics and including Accutane. Birth control has never helped my issue although I am on it.

I did do two rounds of Accutane (one at 12 and one at 20).  It did help as mine was severe but never went away completely. Ive done proactive multiple times and as some others said, it helped intially but then stopped working. I got sick and tired of going to drs because they always want to put you on different pills and I just dont know how good it is to always have antibiotics in you.

A few months ago, I started using Clinique's Acne Solutions line, and it has been the only thing that has cleared up my face just about totally. I will still get a pimple or two but its nothing like it used to be.

  • If you went off BCP for baby making, ignore this part: I struggled for years and finally found a combo of Rxes that worked: clindamyacin (sp?) in the am, wash with brevoxyl 8% and, at night: benzaclin (be careful, will bleach pillowcases).  It was a harsh regimen, but it worked.

But, I found a more natural approach that worked for me, and wish I did it earlier.  I cut out most dairy products.  I went pure vegan for a bit and my skin was perfect- no acne or eczema (I was doubly lucky in the skin problem dept). However, it appears that I love cheese more than clear skin, so while avoiding most dairy and trying to stick to organic helps, I still get breakouts.  With the pregnancy, I have given up.  I still avoid most dairy, but my skin is just horrible now- damn hormones.

  • I tried proactiv back in the day and it never worked for me.  5 or 6 years ago I started using Mario Badescu acne products (http://www.mariobadescu.com/Skin-Care) I use the buffering lotion and have barely gotten any acne since.  I barely even have to use the stuff anymore either... I used it all the time as directed when I first got it but now I just use it when I get one and it disappears in a day or 2.  I've recomeended this stuff to a few people who it helped as well.

Good luck, hope you find something that helps!

  • Im not sure if this will help but I'll try. I dont struggle with acne but my husband did REALLY bad. He uses these products from a web-site called acne.org and its amazing what it has done for his skin. It was a long hard road in the beginning clearing it up, and it made his face always look red and he was really unhappy but the results are amazing. The redness went away and so did the acne and his face has been clear for almost a year now. I hope this can help :)

It never worked for me either.  HOWEVER, I heard they have a stronger version if you call back after ordering (I bought it on the "As Seen on TV" store so it didn't apply to me) and tell them that it doesn't work.

  • I have hormone-fueled acne since I went off the pill too.  I get a breakout, usually on my chin, but sometimes on my nose or cheeks too, around the time I get my period, and a smaller one around the time I ovulate.  This last breakout has been particularly bad and seems to be trying to last the full cycle.

Unfortunately, nothing really works for me.  I can't use anything with benzoyl peroxide, like proactiv, because I have a sensitivity to it and it makes my skin all red and burning for a day or more if I use it.  Salycylic acid doesn't seem to do much either.  Sorry, I hope you find something that works for you!

  • This may sound totally stupid but are you giving the products time to work? The face washes, astringents, etc are drawing all the bad stuff out of your skin so it looks like crap.  I always thought that your skin would get worse before it got better. Kwim???? Sry I dont have any product advice I use sopa or the generic of the orange neutrogena wash. GL

  • Yes I have given the products some time to work.  But no results = (
