Mother's Day

I need a good idea on what to get my MIL for mother's day. DH is no help. If it were up to him, she would just get some flowers.

She likes gardening, and reading. I just got her a giftcard to Barnes & Noble for her bday a few months ago, so that's kind of out. And we got her some "lawn art" for the backyard for Christmas.

I already know what I'm getting my mom.

Any suggestions? Something between $25-50 would be best. Yes, we're cheap.

Re: Mother's Day

  • Does subscribe to any magazines, maybe a subscription to better homes and gardens or a gardening specific magazine.  You could make a little gift basket and put the subscripion notification in that.
  • I actually think flowers are nice.  :)

I got my grandmother a subscription to Neil Sperry's gardening magazine one year.  He has some books too.

  • Unfortunately, she's not really a big magazine person. Confused

True. But I want to get her a little something, too.

  • What about a gift certificate for a pedi/mani or something of that nature?  Or are you wanting something physical (not a GF or GC) to get her?

  • i'm a  big fan of gift cards for the non birthday occasions. is there a nice garden store around?

or, like a PP said, maybe a GC for a manicure, and say something in the card about taking care of her gardener's hands (but without sounding awkward)?

  • I like PP's mani/pedi ideas... or a massage!

Also, I know this isn't what you asked exactly, but both my Mother and MIL stronly prefer having a meal with us over a gift.   You guys could get her some flowers and take her to brunch or perhaps dinner?

  • What about an edible arrangement?  Is that too much like flowers?
  • Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. I will definitely be thinking about it!

  • I heard somewhere about a mom who got to go to the garden center every year and buy flowers and plant them on mother's day.... so you could buy her a flat of flowers to add to her beds, or maybe a gift card for some.  If you're feeling really charitable, you can help her plant them :)

     Cute Idea.

I'm no help, my mom's birthday is tomorrow, so it is always w/in 2 weeks of mothers day.  She gets a present for her birthday, and flowers for mothers day.
