Phoenix, AZ

Anyone been there?

We are going on there in two weeks for a whole week. My sister is graduating from Arizona State and since we were going we figured we would try and make a vacation out of it.

Problem is we don't really know what to do. (Although enjoying the outdoors and warmth is looking good enough right now)

Just curious if anyone has been and if they did any "must do" things

Thx :)

Re: Phoenix, AZ

  • We went there this past October.  It was my first sober vacation, being I was KU, so we didn't get to experience the city like we normally would.  There are a lot of nice places to eat (check out restaurants.com), golf courses, and amazing shopping.  We took a day trip to Sedona, and then another trip to the Grand Canyons.  Vegas is about 350 miles away, which isn't bad, if you wanted to go there for a day.  I highly recommend the going to Sedona, it was beautiful there.

I would like to go back when we can check out the night life more.

  • Yes, I lived there for 8 years!  I went back recently as an adult and we went to Rawhide, which is a fun outdoors old-west themed town.  Old Tuscon is fun to go to also.  The Phoenix zoo is great too.  The famous town Tombstone (O.K. Corral & Big Kat Saloon) is about 2-2.5 hours from it if you are up for a pretty and scenic drive.  I'm sure you'll have fun just being in the hot sun! So jealous.
  • I was totally looking at doing the steak dinner cowboy cookout at Rawhide!

This is our first "family trip" - very different then anything we have done before. Not being able to just go out at night and do whatever we want is a strange strange thing :)

We rented a car for the week with unlimited miles so we are up for anything. Sedona is definitely on my to do list.

Oh, here is a funny pic of DH & I in 2009 in Tombstone with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday :)

  • My first thought was "must do=bring and wear copious amounts of sunscreen." After that, Sedona is a place I've always wanted to see...supposed to be amazing!

Other than that, I don't know much about it. I went for a football game once way back in college, but we didn't do much besides drink, sleep, eat, and go to the game!

    Try this website maybe: http://www.tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i194-Fun_for_Kids_in_Phoenix.html

  • Sedona is absolutely beautiful!  The roads are all sorts of topsy turvy and I tend to get really car sick but even with that, it was way worth the trip for me.  Stick out tongue  If you have never been to the Grand Canyon I would definitely do that too. Amazing.  Although when I was there, I did wonder how people bring their kids because holy moly you can just walk right off a cliff!!!  So make sure you have Clara strapped to you tightly!

  • Love Arizona!  There is so much to do out there!  I ditto pp's on Sedona.  There is also Camelback Mountain which has some nice hikes - just avoid the ridiculous hills since you are pregnant.  Shopping at the Scottsdale Fashion Square is a must, their mall is awesome.  They also have a great Nordstroms Rack.  Walking around Old Town is cute, it is like an "old west" town but cute for a stroll after dinner.  There is this wine and flatbread restaurant called il postino in Scottsdale too.  I know you can't enjoy the wine, but this is one of my favorite restaurants ever, super romantic.
  • this is great!! We leave for Phoenix Friday.....
