how was everyone's weekend?

we had a great time and i managed to successfully cook an easter/birthday dinner for 12.  not too shabby.  i was so excited that i managed to get all of the food done on time, at the same time.

the best thing i made this weekend was these..... incredibly easy and awesome!  i made them saturday afternoon for sunday morning.  just re-heated at 250 in the oven for ~5 mins.  perfection.  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/easy-sticky-buns-recipe/index.html

Re: how was everyone's weekend?

  • Glad your dinner turned out great! Those sticky buns look soo good. I think when I start cooking, that will be my fear of having all the food done and on time. lol.

Weekend was great. Ryan came home so that nice. We did a lot of family things and here we are on Monday.

Oh and I ate and drank entirely too much. I am trying to detox but it's hard with lots of leftovers my mom graciously gave out.

  • Went to dinner with 10 other friends on Friday night; that was fun.

Saturday had a trail race with the mr. (He got an award--I was really proud of him!) We came home, un-mudded ourselves, ate some well deserved hoagies and took naps.

Sunday, watched the King's Speech in the morning, worked around the house, went to dinner (just us) and then roasted marshmallows in our friend's backyard.

we watched this last night.  i really, really liked it.  i almost wanted it to last longer and give more of an ending but i can totally understand why it ended when it did.

  • It was a very productive and restful weekend at the same time.

Thursday night I went out to dinner with some friends while DH was working.

Friday I finally began to go through of my many belongings still at my mom' s house in my old room, went to church and hung out with DH.

Saturday I ran errands, got a haircut and did some cleaning around the house while DH was working.

Sunday was church and brunch with my mom and sister,  ordered a storm door for our house, went to Ikea for yogurt and looked around and found way too many things I liked for the house (I ended up buying a flower pot you hang from the railing) and then we had dinner at my parents' house.

  • Eh, I need to vent about mine.  Actually I'm kind of more pissed about it today, after seeing lots of Easter pics on FB. Apparently it was sunny here yesterday and it was raining and nasty yesterday and all weekend in north central PA, where we were visiting the IL's. Womp womp.

So there was lots of drama as usual with MIL & FIL... MIL was extremely jealous of the dog. If I was showering or whatnot, the dog would sit with MIL but as soon as I came back she would run to me.  The dog is a rescue and chihuahua, I can't help that it's attached to me. It's not like I would snatch it away from her, it's just the nature of the dog. Once she got really irritated and rolled her eyes, DH saw (I didn't) and got super pissed and told her to get her own dog. I just can't wait till we have kids  ::sarcasm::  They now want to watch her when we go away in November to Turks. It would be rather inconvenient to get her out there, even if they meet us halfway.  My parents will most likely watch her because they are just closer and I can see this ending in a nasty fight.  Soooo not looking forward to that.

They also have no concept of healthy eating and it bothers me a lot. FIL is in really bad shape...he had 2 hip replacements at 58 and can't walk more than a foot without being out of breath. He's now 62. We made a point to tell them before we came that we were exercising very hard and trying to change our eating habits. We didn't want to deny them an Easter dinner, so we said the normal Easter dinner was fine but we would like to try to have healthy meals the rest of the weekend.  We were fine with bringing stuff or cooking, or stopping at Wegmans grabbing salads, etc. But they were insistent on cooking for us and MIL had talked to DH earlier in the week about what we could have.  They told us they wanted to do steaks on Friday which was fine, we just told them we'd like a salad and veggies to go with it.  They said fine, we show up and there's Oreida potato wedges and onion rings, and some asparagus.  I literally had 4 pieces of asparagus on my plate.  I ended up eating a little bit of the other stuff. Fine, whatever. I'm a guest, I eat what I'm given.  At that point I was starving because I had worked out really hard in the afternoon.

Saturday morning was a quiche which was delicious... I ask for the recipe.  There's a full stick of butter in it.  2 kinds of full fat cheeses and a pastry crust.  I go to the gym and I'm sick.  Saturday night was ham, baked corn, sweet potatoes fried in butter and brown sugar, mac and cheese. Sunday morning was going to be a breakfast casserole and hashbrowns, I almost lost it so I told MIL I had to watch what I was eating and couldn't eat that.  I ended up making my own eggs for me and DH. I'm sure she loved that. Then, we're trying to leave and she wants to send me home with chocolate which I refuse. I take 4 pieces and you could tell she was super annoyed.  I probably should have just taken it and threw it out, but I couldn't. I would have polished it off on the car ride home.

I worked out 6 days last week including busting my asss on Saturday at the Planet Fitness up there and now I'm up a pound.  SO NOT HAPPY RIGHT NOW.

Oh, and it gets better.  My iphone died on Saturday while I was up there. I have the apple screen of death and won't be able to hit AT&T until tonight, so I am currently phone-less.

The silver lining to the trip was I found a pair of Vera Wang Lavender flats at the TJ's up there for $69, retail $195!  Ah-ma-zing.

  • i watched the king's speech too. and liked it.

also saw water for elephants and thought it stunk! pattison cant act!

  • so sorry to hear that jewels.  ugh!  focus on the ballet flats.

thanks ering. i probably sound like a wretched biiatch, but it seriously wrecked my mood today. i am not going back there for a long time. they can drive to my house and too bad if they don't like driving to philly or staying at our house. they can get a hotel or not see us. end of story!

  • We just got back last night from a week in MI with family; because of the rain and wussy drivers, it took us 12 hours to get back (we drove).  I had two baby showers and got so much stuff we had to borrow a trailer to get it all home; seriously, how much stuff does a 7lb human being need!?   It was really nice to be home since I haven't been there since Christmas.  I really hate living so far away; missing my niece grow up isn't worth all the awesome-ness of Philly.

  • We headed down to the DC area to see friends and had a great weekend.  Dinner out on Friday night with two sets of friends (and got to meet a cute little baby boy for the first time too!).  Saturday we hit the zoo and then hung at our friend's place and ate and watched DVDs.  Yesterday we did Church, then brunch, then watched the Sixers and headed home after the tornado warning lifted.  Such a great, stress-free holiday- wish they could all be like that!
