2 gross and embarrassing questions, but I'm gonna ask anyway
1.Has anyone had BV bacterial vaginosis?
If so, did they prescribe Metrogel? When they did what were some of your side effects?
2. I have an IUD, and remembered I was supposed to be checking for the strings, but I can't feel them. I had an annual mid March and the doc verified it was still in place, but now I'm starting to freak out because I can't feel them. Please tell me I would know if it wasn't in place....
TIA

Re: 2 gross and embarrassing questions, but I'm gonna ask anyway
I can only answer question #2.
I was never able to feel mine. My Dr. cut the strings really short, he told me in the first few months really look at (this is gonna sound gross) my tampon and just make sure it's not there (if they are going to expel it is generally in the first few months)
Also, in time the strings actually wrap around the cervix so you wouldn't be able to feel them anyway. I just had my annual and all is well.

Metrogel is very effective and I liked it better than taking pills. I have had to use it twice. No side effects. It is a clear gel. You put it in a bedtime (to avoid mess and to keep it in).
And don't be embarrassed. BV is even more common than yeast infections. Many women mistakenly self diagnose themselves with yeast infection when it's really BV. People also mistakenly think they got BV from not washing well, etc. But keeping "too clean" down there as well as douching can actually cause you to get it (by washing away the GOOD microbes that keep the bad bacteria under control, and by altering the PH)
I've had an IUD before. There were times the strings would get pushed up too far for me to feel them. AS far as knowing if it were out of place. In theory..yes. But i have heard an occasional story of women no realizing they lost them in the toilet...(How the HELL do you miss that?)
Just curious- my doctor said I could have sex while on treatment, but the pharmacist said to reframe from it. Did you have sex while you were on it? I insert it at night before bed, would day time sex be out of the question?
If you are going to, I would do it before inserting the meds. Else it'll be messier (and I would want all the med to stay IN that I can). It should't keep you from healing. The med gel is the exact PH that your vaginal canal should be (one of the ways it helps cure infection along with the med in it)
BUT....sex creates a damper environment and ejaculate has a lower PH than your normal flora. SO my personal opinion is to take a rest while on treatment for BEST results. Again....it shouldn't keep you from healing 9though some girls who are prone to them are advised to abstain during treatment)
I've used the gel twice. And I hated it both times. I was told by my NP that sex was a no no, and to wait a whole day after the medication was done to have sex again. The first time around, we didnt heed the warning, and it wasnt pretty. (Sorry to be graphic).
And no side effects.
