Home /Car Insurance Carrier Recs

Hello all! We will be settling on our new home in June and need to find homeowners insurance. Any recommendations for companies with good rates/service and/or good agents that can access policies for many different companies? We currently have insurance through AAA and have had great service with them so we are considering sticking with them, but we just wanted to comparison shop before we make a final determination.  We're in Mechanicsburg if that matters at all.

Re: Home /Car Insurance Carrier Recs

  • Our home owner's is through Erie (CRS in Gettysburg as the agent  - they do cover Cumberland county).  Car insurance is through Progressive - for some odd reason it ended up cheaper to keep them separate, but not by much.

While we've never had to file a claim with Erie, my parents have Erie for both home/car/umbrella have never had a problem with any claim they've submitted over the past 20 + years (both car & home).

  • We used Advanced Insurance Solutions in Hershey (Ben Johnston to be exact).  We ended up going with Grange for homeowners and car.  We have several family members that use Ben.  Some ended up with Erie for insurance, some with Grange, I guess it just depends on the details.

Good luck and congrats on the new house!  We just bought our home last May.

  • We have used State Farm for car insurance and home insurance for over 10 years and I used it for renters insurance before than.

  • Thank you all for your ideas. My parents have Erie so they were already on my "possible" list but Ill definitely check them out as well as the other options you suggested.

  • We use Erie for everything as well and have been very happy.

  • You should get a quote from AARP Home Insurance Program. Their rates are affordable and their policies offer some great features and benefits that would come in handy when you would need to make a claim. If you bundle your auto and home insurance together, you?ll get even better discounts.
