Fence saga continues...

If anyone remembers me complaining repeatedly about my neighbors fence and her 3 german shephards busting through and digging under, you will love this.  During the storm last night the thing just blew over!  This pic shows what we have here.   She's very nice and wants to be a good neighbor I think.  But her and her "live in handyman" guy were taking about just replacing the posts and putting the same fence back up.  We told them, in a very nice way, that we will replace it.  I really want board on board so our dogs don't tempt her dogs to dig under it.  We got a quote today for 850.  We could do it ourselves cheaper, but hiring someone requires zero of our time off and guarantees a quality job.  I can not wait to post pics of a nice brand new board on board fence!  I just want my yard!  It could be so peaceful and nice.

  • omg I see the black pool of doom.....any word on how that is going down?

ETA: are you going to have to see the "ugly" side of the fence??

  • Sucks you have to pay for the fence but on the other hand, you won't have to deal with that *** anymore!

  • They are in the process of draining the pool right now and Aly I am not exaggerating when I say it is stinking up the entire neighborhood where the water is running down the street.  When I walked my dogs last night I had to try not to gag.  The innocent ducks and cats have been drinking it and I'm expecting to see animal carcasses all over the neighborhood now.  :/

Yep, we will see the ugly side of the fence, but that will be better than their patches over it and the holes dug under it.  Now Brian wants to save a couple hundred off that price and do it himself.  I reallllly just want to pay someone.  I'm usually for a little hard work and saving on cost, but we did the fence on the other side of the house and the work sucked.  It took a couple days, and this one is longer.  He can't even get started until next week.  Also this side of the house floods when it rains so there needs to be good cement posts.  Plus H works 65-70 hrs a week and on his 2 days off, I want him for bike rides and fun stuff.  We are only young once.  *Plus* not to take away from my H and his awesome capabilities, but an expert will do a quality job.  Cement posts every 6 feet and all that.  H fixes cars, we save $ there, I say we leave the fencing up to the experts.

I'd like to get a few more quotes though, anyone know any professional fence builders?

Seriously!  The thought of having a new fence brings tears of joy to my eyes. :)

Oh, and about us seeing the ugly side... I'm thinking of growing vines up it.  Maybe.  I need to learn about vines and make sure they won't damage the fence.  I also want hydrangea bushes.  And a million gazillion dollars.

My mom would know about the vines. I'll ask her - she is doing something like that on the side of her house.

  • Wouldn't they?  My sister had just given me a hydrangea plant for easter because I had them for my wedding and they make her think of me.  On my way home that day I still had it in my car with me while I stopped at a farmers market/nursery place for veggies.  I was talking to the owner lady and I told her when I figure out what I am going to do with my yard I will come see her.  I told her I get zero sunlight in my front yard (Hello giant oaks) and she said hydrangea bushes are good for full shade.  It is like fate.  I had no idea.  I would love to be able to clip the flowers and have them in my house for 3 seasons, they are so pretty, and you can do all different colors.

  • Good and bad for you!  At least you won't have to deal with that anymore!
