Confession

Don't shun me, please.

We received a kitchenaid mixer as a wedding gift. We didn't register for it, because I felt like it was a waste of money and no one would buy it for us, but Robin's aunt and cousin went in together and got us one anyway. I love it. It's pretty and all. I never use it. Embarrassed We're pretty clean eaters and I make lots from scratch, but I rarely bake. Whenever I need to mix something, I just use my handmixer, because clean up just seems easier. Now I feel bad for never using it, especially since others think theirs is the greatest thing ever. I'm thinking I might have to make some whipped cream to have with fresh strawberries.

If you have a KA mixer, do you leave it on the countertop or have it put away? Perhaps, if it were on the countertop I'd be inclined to use it more. Hmmm. Maybe I should put it where the toaster oven is and store it instead. This girl loves her cheese toasts, though.

I'm inadequate in the kitchen.

Feel free to confess something. Sorry I'm kind of rambly.

Re: Confession

  • Mine's out on the countertop.  We so don't have the cabinet space to put it away.  It's tucked in the corner of the counter right by the fridge.

I use mine all the time, but I also bake a lot - cupcakes, breads, cookies.  I could see how a non-baker wouldn't use it as much.

  • Mine used to be on a shelf in the kitchen, but now it's in a cabinet because I was afraid Ellie would pull it over on herself.

Don't feel bad. I don't use mine all that much either - sometimes it's just easier to use the hand mixer. I mainly use mine for big meals/holidays.

I confess that I'm not posting pics of my house in the ADITL thread because my house is really small compared to everyone else's and I'm embarrassed. I didn't think 1200 sq ft was small until now.

  • In my condo, my KA lived on the counter. Now it lives in a little cubby-like spot under the cabinets on one side of the kitchen, it's a space just barely tall enough to fit the KA, and our breadbox is also there. I have to haul it out to use it, but it's not a big deal to me at all. My handmixer lives in the basement because I think I've used it once since I got the KA 8 years ago.

My confession: I never got dressed yesterday. I went from flannel pjs to workout clothes to summery cotton pjs. I did put on pants for dinner so my husband doesn't think I'm turning into a crazy housewife with curlers in her hair or something. At least my skin's doing well (knock on wood) so I don't look hideous with no makeup on.

mine's smaller.  We're only like 1100 sq ft.  Out basement is finished which makes it seem larger.  Don't be embarassed  Because then I'd have to be embarassed :)

ours is only 1900, which seems enormous after living in 400sq ft for 7 years. I think my ILs' house is 800, so I wouldn't feel like 1200 is very small!

We're working with 1,500 sq ft of livable space. Not too bad for 1,200.

I have a $3 hand mixer from a Target black Friday sale. I love it. Before that, I'd just mix things by hand.

I am semi interested in a KA mixer. But it is low priority for me.

1600 sq feet, and thats only because we can count our finished basement.

  • Basements are very hard to come by in AR. I wish I had one! but the ground is too soft.

So my mixer is in the box in the spare bedroom closet. I don't use it that much anyways, I can't bake.

  • Our house is just under 1100 sq feet.  I haven't been posting in most of the day of the life pictures because I never can find good pics to use!

Our KA doesn't fit on the counter, so it is in the box in the dining room.  I really wish I baked more, but when I do, I love it.  I want to get some of the attachments for it, like the pasta one, etc.

  • My house is 1008 sq. ft. Don't feel bad. I don't post pics because most of our home decor is handmedowns from the ILs or friends who have upgraded their stuff. Our house has no "style."

My KA is in a big cabinet in our laundry area adjacent to the kitchen. We don't have enough counter space to keep it out. I don't use it much because A) it's not in view and I forget about it, and B) it's heavy as heck for me to get down from the cabinet. I definitely use it for mashed potatoes at holidays, and Neuner's gooey butter cookies (since it said on the recipe to use the KA!).

My confession: we told Bryans extended family (grandparents, cousins and aunt/uncle) at dinner last night. Everyone was excited, but then I had to hear the harping on my beverage choices (a half a can of diet coke in the mornings) and my weight (shouldn't I be losing some?). I'm concerned I'm not going to be able to keep the "fvck yous" to myself until November.

See, the beauty of pregnancy is that you don't HAVE to keep the fvck you's to yourself. You can tell people off and then blame it on the hormones!

  • Our house is about 1,500 square feet (not counting the unfinished basement).

The mixer lives on our counter because it's bright blue color makes me happy. Not because we use it every single day or because we don't need the counter space, just because it's blue and makes me smile. Which is a silly reason to lose counter space but I don't care.

I confess, I went to CVS yesterday to get Jon a birthday card and walked out with 3 bags of 1/2 price Cadbury mini eggs.

my confession, re: the bedding post above --- I don't what bumpers are and I don't know why there is controversy about them.

The bumper is the little cushy part that goes around the inside of the crib. There is controversy about them because some people thing they cause SIDS because they reduce air flow in the crib. Is big dramz.

  • DD- Definitely put it on your counter.  Out of sight= out of mind.

Like Neuner, I bake a lot, so mine is an absolute necessity.  I also have the 6 qt Pro series, because I figured if I was going to get one I didn't want to be limited and need a new one 2 years later.

We try to eat pretty cleanly too, and I make 80% of stuff from scratch (stupid barren land with no seasonal veggies and ridic produce prices keep me from making that 95%).  BUT, here are a few things to try:

A quickbread (strawberry, banana, coffee cake, etc)

Mashed potatoes (so much better with the KA- there's a recipe in the manual that I use)

    Homemade pasta (omg good)

Rolls or Bread to go with a meal.

    Scratch cornbread

  • mines 1600 without the basement, but i never take pictures because i feel like my house is kind of boring. i am not really much of a decorator. and i REALLY want to paint and change out the light fixtures but the husband is dragging his feet.

RE: the KA. mine is on the counter because we dont have a lot of kitchen cabinet space so i keep most "extras" (large roaster, crockpots, steamer, blenders, etc.) in the basement on some shelves Andy built in the storage room. but putting the KA downstairs is out of the question for me. im not lugging it up and down the steps a few times a month.

i still use my hand mixer occasionally too, sometimes its just easier.

my confession: i was going to start p90x yesterday but i did the first 2:45 and decided to watch friends and eat a Dove truffle instead.

  • You guys are going to think I'm the biggest b!tch for this...but, my house is about 2500 square feet and I was just thinking the other day how small it is. (Please realize that homes this size in Omaha, NE, especially ones built in the 80s and 90s like mine, probably cost less than a lot of smaller homes in high-cost of living areas.)

I realize that sounds ridiculous, but we don't have an open floor plan at all. Each room is its own box, essentially.  It's hard to decorate.  Most of your homes are so nicely decorated that it makes mine look boring and empty.  Be glad you don't have separate formal living rooms, separate hearth rooms, separate everything to try to decorate.  It's costly and a PITA.  These are things H and I should've given more thought to when we bought this house.  We bought it because we plan to be in it for a long time and raise two kids in it, but the layout is so annoying.

As for the KA, mine is on my counter in a corner.  Too heavy to have to pull it out of a cabinet. I use mine about once a week.

Also, do any of you find you have to scrape the sides of the bowl periodically while your KA is mixing?  I feel like mine doesn't mix as efficiently as it should.
