f/u to cat vent from yesterday

We have good news and bad news.  The good news is that Roxy seems to have stopped peeing on the carpet and is back to using her litter box.  I've used a few products so far that, while definitely reducing the stain/ordor, have not eliminated it completely.  I have cornered off the area so she can't get to it while we continue cleaning.  We also cleaned up the basement, freshened up her litter box and tried to make it as nice and calm as possible for her.

Now for the bad news.  The vet said that some of her labs indicate she is in the beginning stages of kidney disease :(  She said some of her numbers looked really good, but her BUN and creatinine were right on the border.  We got some meds and new food made specifically to help kidney function.  We are to follow up with the vet in 3 months.  I was a wreck yesterday but today I decided that as long as she is eating, drinking, and acting like her normal sweet self, I am just going to focus on that.

  • oh, I'm sorry to hear that about your kitty. I hope you have good luck with the meds and food.

  • I'm sorry to hear that. I had a cat that was diagnosed with kidney disease caused by hyperthyroidism. We got her the radioactive injection, and it kept her healthy for another 4 years, with no need for meds. She had to get her BUN and creatinine tested a few times a year though. Did your vet mention that it could be due to her thyroid? Would be worth checking into it.
