Re: What else is new in your garden this year?
I planted something called dutch wildflowers. I couldnt find them on the internet so I'm not sure that's what they are really called. I'm starting to see some leaves appear from the bulbs so that's exciting!
I found cinnamon basil which is a new one for our garden
I planted a new knockout rose that's called Sunny and is yellow. I love yellow!
Forsythia. And they're blooming
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

I'm going to try tomatoes and strawberries this year (both in containers).
I haven't shopped for flowers yet but have one new bed to plant.
I redid our front walkway in bulbs last fall and they are absolutely beautiful. Right now Salome and Misty Glen daffodils are a-blooming. They make me smile every time I see them!
For edibles, this is the first year for: tomatillos, poblano peppers, spinach, candy onions, strawberries and eggplant. I also bought 12 herb pots and started herbs from seed for the first time.
Heuchera, oriental poppies, "chocolate chip" ajuga, delphinium for the ornamentals. Not really new but I got more hostas, clematis and peonies- it's like a disease I just keep wanting more of them everywhere.
For the edibles I'm mostly just doing what did well last year, but more of it (especially eggplant). My new attempts will be chives, kale, radishes, carrots, peas and beans. I'm going to try and track down the big-flowered basil I saw in Sunset and also try some bush-type tomatoes as well as the vining ones.
"The meek shall inherit the earth" isn't about children. It's about deer. We're all going to get messed the fuckup by a bunch of cloned super-deer.- samfish2bcrab
Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman

Well I have a bunch of perennials I planted last year that are flowering for the first time this year. So far they have been helleborous (this was a mixed bag thing so I wasn't sure what colors they would be but so far they are all purple) and plumonaria some raspberry variety I was given by another garden club member.
The things I've eyed up at the local nurseries and plan to buy next weekend after we come back from vacation are:
Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Golden Pin Cushion'
Thuja occidentalis 'Golden Tuffet' (only one of these left!)
Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Tsukumo'
'Invincibelle Spirit' Hydrangea
'Green Gem' Boxwood
'PJM' & 'PJM Elite' Rhododendron
That's what I've found so far at my local nurseries for decent prices. Now I just need to figure out where they will all go! I'm hoping to create two new flower beds this year but the 'Golden Tuffet' would work well in a different future flower bed I wasn't planning to tackle this year.
I have that Pieris!
I just got a Chamaecyparis pisifera var filifera (sp?) and another blueberry bush. I'm considering getting some other shrubs too...maybe Ilex glabra/Inkberry
I'm scared of conifers after our last house. I know, they can look nice, and those do, but I shudder every time I think of it.
We're in full-out clearing mode (back yard - YIKES) and starting the hardscape on the front yard in a few weeks so I haven't planted anything.
I also killed my seedlings, so I'm waiting to hit the farmer's market for plants in a couple weeks when I can actually plant the vegetable garden.
