PR: morning sickness

What did you use if you had m/s?

I feel like death. I'm so effing nauseous, no throwing up yet, although I kind of wonder if I'd feel better if I did.

I called my OB this morning and she recommended that I try taking half a dramamine to see if that helps before she gives me a RX for Zofran. I'm not a fan of trying the dramamine because I've read opposing sides as to wether it's ok or not ok.

I was thinking about picking up some of those Sea Band thingys at Target. Anyone try those?

Re: PR: morning sickness

  • I always felt like I was on the verge of throwing up but would never actually get to that point. The main thing that helped was to always snack. If my stomach was empty, I would feel sick. I ended up just making sure I was having something every 2 hours (nuts, string cheese, crackers, etc). I'm not sure if that will help you but it may be worth a shot before taking meds.

  • My nausea was never bad enough that I felt like I needed anything medicine wise. I just ate bagels, mashed potatoes, and sour dough pretzels Lolol

  • Awww! I feel your pain. M/s is really bad if you have motion sickness (which I do). I was nauseous ALL day and threw up on average 5 times a day. Throwing up did not make me feel any better. I took 1/2 a unisom before bed. It helped a little. Honestly, nothing helped!! I had it until I was 11 weeks then *poof* it just stopped one day. I hope you feel better soon, m/s is awful!
  • Motherhood apparently has things called "Preggie Pops" or something like that.  Those are supposed to help.  Or sucking on ginger candies.  Some of my coworkers swear by cinnamon gum, cinnamon candies, anything cinnamon.

I felt really odd my whole first trimester.  I was nauseated but never to the point of throwing up.  I just always felt like my stomach was sore and I'd eaten something to really upset it and had serious food aversions.  I lived on bagels and cream cheese, chicken noodle soup, and mashed potatoes and gravy for a while.  Everything else sounded terrible until I was 14 weeks or so  (and then the cravings set in.)

  • Another thing that really helped me was to eat before I even got out of bed in the morning. Like, before I even sat up. Keep some plain cheerios or saltines on your nightstand and eat a few while you're still laying down. It works!
  • There wasn't anything that really helped me.  I also have bad motion sickness and I threw up very often.  Snacking throughout the day helped some, but pretty much if I was naseous, I threw up.

  • Dramamine will make you really sleepy. I wouldn't even try it during the day.

I've heard B6 can lower m/s (my OB said to take up to 50mg twice a day), as well as constantly snacking. I ate a lot of quesadillas because it was all that sounded good.

People told me to try Altoids or peppermints, but those made me feel worse.

I ended up getting a script for Zofran anyway because of my job -- I can't really stop doing CPR to go throw up. Zofran is awesome, but it can cause constipation, and you can't take it if you're *too* nauseated or it won't work. Trust me.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • Cheerios and Kix cereals saved my life.  I had a baggie by my bed and would eat a few before getting up as well as sip on a little water.  Then I would just make sure I had a little something in my stomach at all times.  Any time my stomach was empty, I'd feel sick.
  • Thanks for all the tips!

Maybe part of my issue is that I'm not eating often enough. It's just hard when nothing sounds appealing.

  • I took zofran my whole pregnancy. I couldn't even drink water with out it coming back up. I tried to stop taking it at 6 months but ended up throwing up all day. When my tummy was upset I ate jello, plain granola bars, and drank gatorade. I tired to always make sure that my tummy had something in it. So even when your not really hungry don't let your tummy go empty, keep snacks ready to munch on. As long as they are healthy snacks.

Screw that.  Dairy Queen mini blizzards make a fantastic snack. ;)

  • I'm way late, but ditto everyone's advice so far! The Preggie Pop drops from Motherhood helped me a little. What helped me the most was not getting too hungry and eating lots of carbs! :)
  • I bought some of those Sea Band things last night. OMG. SO much better.

    Those really work?

I wonder if they'd work for things like stomach flu...

They are working wonders for me so far. I feel 150% better, no nausea at all!

It says they work for all types of nausea, so they may work for flu symptoms.
