Festival of Arts in Bricktown

Do you go every year?

What is your favorite thing to do at the Arts Festival?

I have always wanted to go, but have never been because something always comes up or I am always out of town that weekend.  I am going to try to go this weekend!

Re: Festival of Arts in Bricktown

  • I totally forgot this was coming up!

We probably will not go this year since we have been really busy.  I am trying to convince H to take time from working on the house to go to the Norman Music Festival on Saturday, and I know I won't convince him to go to two things.  If I get enough done around here today and tomorrow, I may try to go and take the kids Thursday or Friday, though.

I have always lived in the OKC area and have been most years since I was a kid.  I am always sad to miss the food on the years I can't make it!

  • We're planning on going tomorrow night and getting dinner there. We like to just roam through the tents, H a little faster than me, and look at the art. Sometimes I'll watch some of the performances, too, if they suit my desire.

  • It's not in Bricktown, it's on the west side of downtown. Don't want you to get lost.

I'm going tonight and probably at least one other time before it closes. I love the food and looking at the art I can't afford.

  • Not to be a negative nelly but I absolutely despise this time of year.  The construction is bad enough...but add to it 5k people that don't know where they are, what they are doing, etc etc.....its awful.  Took me 20 minutes just to get into the parking garage this morning because people don't understand or care to read the signs.

And they think they're in Bricktown.

LOL!  The traffic is definitely bad and I have no idea where all those people are going to park.  We just got back from having lunch at the arts festival today and I have to recommend the stacked chicken enchiladas from Iguana and I also tried a chocolate bread pudding for dessert - SO yummy, but I am going to have a hard time staying awake this afternoon!  Tomorrow afternoon I'm volunteering at the strawberries newport booth and I can't wait to "play hookey" from work for a little while!  Although to be honest, I really don't see what the big deal about strawberries newport is...it's good, but not anything that special IMO.

I do love the Iguana Stacked Enchiladas.

For some reason, other than the beer tent, the Strawberries Newport tent is THE tent to work. Maybe I will come by and see you. Big Smile

  • By the way - aWm - other than the traffic, which clearly annoys me - the Arts Festival can be a lot of fun - tons of really, really good food.  Downtown is under a lot of construction so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to park.  The garage north of leadership square (just across the street) has valet parking for $8, there is also the Cox Convention Center but there is where you run into people like me that get disgruntled if parking takes too long.  You might be able to find free parking on the street but I wouldn't count on it.

The Myriad Gardens is starting to look muy beautiful - that would be worth checking out for sure..

I used to hate it too, when I worked downtown, especially when I was a runner and had to go in and out of the garage all day.  I can't imagine how bad it is now with all of the construction.  The last couple of times I've gone downtown I've parked in the Main Street garage and gotten them to validate it at my old office when I drop by to say hi.  I think it may be too long since I've worked there to do that now though.

  • I've never been before, but I'm planning on dragging DH along this weekend. I have a friend graduating in a few weeks and I hope to find her a cool piece of handmade art for her present.

  • Opps.. it is not in Bricktown and I know that.

The traffic downtown in pretty bad right now and it is EVERYWHERE!

I really want to go down there this weekend for a little while and check everything out.  I have not ever been to NMF, but everyone that I know that goes, loves it.  Hmm.. maybe we'll have to stop down in Norman too.  I hope everyone has fun!
