The Royal Wedding - flameworthy?

OK - I am going to admit it.  I think that the whole hoopla over "The Royal Wedding" is really silly.  I have friends who are absolutely enthralled with it, to the point of obsessiveness.  Like they're going to get up at whatever crazy hour it is going to be broadcast to watch it and have been discussing in great detail the particulars of the event (which how much can they really know - it hasn't happened yet?).

I get that it is a historical event but so are a lot of other things that seem more important to me.  Am I the only one who thinks that the whole frenzy about it is way overdone?  And if I am, I'll accept the flames that come my way for being an insensitive uncaring biznatch.  lol.

Re: The Royal Wedding - flameworthy?

  • No, I totally agree that the obsessing, the frenzy, and constant Lifetime specials (or whatever) are too much.  And I will certainly not be getting up at some ungodly hour to watch it live.

However, I am excited that a few girlfriends and I are going to record the event and have a little tea party/viewing party.   Mostly, I'm looking forward to an excuse for breaking out the wedding china and dressing up a little (and maybe to see what Kate's dress looks like).

  • You're not being an insensitive, uncaring biznatch.  It's completely ridiculous the craziness this is stirring.  It irritates me that this is wedding is considered historic.  It irritates me that people treat celebrity-status people like they're extraordinarily special--especially when the fans are always complaining about being have-nots.

  • I just want to see what her dress looks like....but I won't be getting up at 3am to see it, I'll wait for the multiple programs that night...
  • I feel the same way that you do.  I get that it should be a big deal THERE, but I don't know why people here care.  Sure, I want to see the dress and pictures of a crazy wedding, but I'd want to see that for any celebrity wedding.

There are some people that are definitely going overboard.  There are "replica" engagement rings you can buy on TV now?  And a "documentary" about them starring look-alikes?  It's weird.

I work with a woman who is actually having a party with her family, starting at 3 in the morning to watch the wedding live!  She's taking off work that day, they even borrowed a TV so they'd have 2 big screens to watch it on - one on an american broadcast and one on the BBC broadcast!

  • I agree that it's complete craziness!  I am looking forward to seeing her dress and the cake - but I can see that online at a normal hour or in People...when it arrives.

There is a local bar/restaurant that's supposed to be like an English pub and it's opening at 5am on Friday.  It did the same thing for the World Cup...but still.  It's a wedding - WOW.

Exactly my thoughts.  I just want to see the dress.

  • well I'm so relieved to know I'm not the only un-obsessed person out there!  I feel so much better.  Big Smile
  • Ditto about the dress. Even sitcoms are in on the royal wedding craziness. Anyone watch The Middle? Last week's episode was about the wedding...it's everywhere!!
