My position with my current company has been "eliminated" and I was placed in a commission only position on April 1. I cannot rely on this kind of pay right now since we found out in late March that I am pregnant.
I'm on the hunt for something new, and I'm not showing yet, but wondering when to tell my potential new employer that I am pregnant. I know they are not supposed to discriminate, but thats not to say that they won't find some "other" reason not to hire me if I tell them I am expecting during an interview. I really don't think its my place to tell an interviewer that I am pregnant, but I feel sneaky if I wait til I start to tell them - I feel like I'm hiding something.
Has anyone else gone through this? What did you do?
I'm so stressed out about this situation. Everything was good then my company up and does this - with only 2 days notice to boot!

Re: Pregnant and Job Hunting
Most people will advise telling them if/when you get an offer. At that point you can negotiate for time off, since you won't be eligible for FMLA, but they may offer some sort of maternity leave package.
I still don't understand why you'd feel like you're hiding something. Just as you wouldn't mention if you have an infant, or a toddler, or a husband in the military for example, you don't need to say, "Hey, I'm pregnant." To me it just opens the door for them to already entertain the thought of passing you over.

When you put it that way, it makes sense. Thanks for putting that into perspective.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I just had an interview last week and debated whether or not to tell them. In the end I did tell them, and they seemed fine with it, but it's for a PRN position, not full time, so they wouldn't be paying out maternity leave anyway.
I haven't found out if I got the job yet but they are checking my references/background check so it's looking good!
I would say just do whatever you feel comfortable with, you aren't legally obligated to tell them and they can't ask. That's not to say that if you get the job they won't be mad that you didn't tell them right up front, but they'll have to get over it.
Yup.
