Speech presentation advice needed

On Wed I am presenting my first official speech in class.  I am doing an informational speech on backpacking.

My question is: Do I wear my backpacking/hiking clothing for my presentation? Or more casual/dressy clothing like I usually wear?

Alzheimers and Parkinsons are two of the other topics a couple of my classmates are speaking on if that helps.

Also, the professor is fairly laid back and knows her stuff, especially speech communication.

TIA!

Re: Speech presentation advice needed

  • Ugh I hated speech class! What I remember was visual aids were always welcome. If you don't wear anything, you should at least bring some of your gear.

    Good luck!

  • I'd bring it and maybe set it up nicely where people can see it.  Wearing it just seems awkward to me.

I agree with this. I'd bring some of your gear and demonstrate what it's used for.

  • Thanks ladies!  I'm glad to hear you guys all say this, DH was pressuring me to wear hiking clothing and I just felt awkward about it.  I will def bring an outfit with to just have displayed and I'm also bringing a hiking guide book and a few other things...

  • Agreed. Don't wear the stuff, esp if it makes you less comfortable.  I would also rec bringing some photos from a trip or two.  Either way, picking a topic you're familiar with is always a good idea.  Good luck.  You'll do great.
