What do scones actually taste like?
I've heard they're easy to screw up whilst making. Is that true? And if so, is it that the taste gets screwed up, or just appearrance?
We've dubbed Friday Talk-With-A-British-Accent day at work, so I thought about making scones to half with our tea. But I've never even eaten a scone, let alone made one...

Re: Foodies -- scones?
I lurve scones with a passion. They're a little like a dry, weirdly shaped muffin. I tried to make them once and failed horribly. They still tasted good, but they were in the wrong shape and they're weren't dry enough because I used regular blueberries instead of dried ones.
If I were to try to make them again I would make them in a round shape, not the triangular shape that I tried and I would follow the recipe to the tee, no substitutions at all.
First of all... Hiiiiiiiiiii!!!
Second... What is this costplus world market thing of which you speak?
they're really not too hard to make, you just have to be careful to crumble the butter in or cut it with a pastry cutter rather than cream it with sugar like you do for cookies. they're a crumbly, dryer, buttery pastry, so good!
starbucks pumpkin spice ones are my favorite, but to buy them piece by piece would get pricey.
They will sell them in a case, FYI. You just have to ask.
I think you still have to pay for each one at the full price though, we did when I worked there. The only discounts on pastries were at Christmas when you could but a whole loaf of gingerbread or a tray of cranberry bliss bars.
I think scones are probably the trickiest baked good. They're so finnicky. The last batch I made, Martha Stewart's Blueberry came out 'correct' but I didn't like the recipe's amount of sugar, they weren't sweet at all. It was a sad fail in my book.
I really liked Dorie Greenspan's Apple and Cheddar, they're sweet and savory, really good!
hah. And on that note, I will be buying them.
Thanks, guys!
hi! ??we are still en route home...sitting at jfk now on a six hour layover.
i see you got clarification on world market. seriously, their scone mix is super easy and good.
also i wanted to add how fun i think what you're doing is and that it reminds me the 'finer things' club on the office. heh
I LOVED that episode! I seriously wanted to start one at my work after that... or with some friends, lol.
Safe travels, can't wait to hear about your trip!
