Home Repair

Speaking of us all being slackers (minus a few of you) in the home repair/remodel department - what one repair/remodel have you been putting off and why?

We need a new thermostat on our first level - the heat doesn't work down there and we figured spring was right around the corner so we'd do it later in the summer - before fall hit.  Well...spring still isn't here and it's still cold down there!  We've been living on the main level since Dayne was born because it's too cold for him down there.

Brrrrr! That happened to our house when I was in high school, but it was the thermostat on the bedroom level. Is it something that Jason can fix himself?

  • Well, it was getting new bathroom faucets in the tub and a new bathroom sink & faucet because we had no access panel to the tub plumbing, but since we have the leak we have to fix it and get all new so it worked out :)

The other thing we've been putting off is getting rid of our fake french doors that do not seal and replacing with a doorwall.  Hopefully sometime this summer....

  • everything. we are realizing that pretty much every room in our house needs to be gutted and we are putting it off because we don't have the money and are boderline lazy.

  • Am I allowed to post even though apparently everyone thinks I'm the home improvement guru?  lol.

I had been putting off getting blinds for our kitchen window (it faces the front of the house).  I got matching blinds for all the bedroom windows when we first moved in, but waited on the kitchen because we were going to remodel it and I didn't know what color blinds would match.  Um, yeah.....3.5 years later, I finally just buckled and ordered the blinds this past weekend.  Yes, we have had zero privacy in that area of the house for 3 years.  I'm sure our neighbors have appreciated the entertainment.  :o)

Yes it is - it's just us having to buy it and Jason repairing it - like I said - we're slackers.

  • There is a lot in our house we have been putting off mostly because they are little and when you add them all up, they just seem obnoxious :-)  We bought our house last year and the people who had it before us bought it and flipped it.  So there are not any major projects, just little things.  Like replacing the old thermostat with a new programmable one, getting supports for some of the blinds (they are too big and sag in the middle), getting new blinds for the few windows that don?t have them, ect.  Maybe when the weather gets a bit warmer we will dedicate a day to taking care of a bunch of this.

It's not like you have a new baby or a job or anything that might keep you otherwise occupied.  Stick out tongue I think it's totally understandable to be putting it off.

  • DH is very handy, so there's not too much that needs to get fixed that doesn't.  It's more about decorating type stuff.  It took me about 5 years to replace the roll-up window screens on our front windows with blinds, but we just did that this last christmas.  We also haven't painted a single room in the house in the 5.5 years we've lived here.  We're not exactly slacking, but now that DH is done with school as of saturday, finishing the basement drop ceiling and laying hardwood in the kitchen are up next.

  • Our entire basement. I hate it.

It leaks in 3 different spots any time it rains.

It's uneven painted cement with this little raised wood-floor room in one corner. It is hideous.

  • Not so much repairs, just things that need to be done that never get done.

    - Cleaning/restaining the deck

    - Front landscaping, I tell DH the house looks like a foreclosure from the front

    - Clean/organize basement, every time I try to do a little down there sh!t gets piled up again!

I really want to acomplish these things before the baby comes because I know we're going to have a lot of visitors this summer!

  • We want to put cement on the side and behind the garage and buy a small shed to put back there to store summer stuff in winter and winter stuff in summer. We just keep spending the money on other stuff.

I also want to paint our front, side, and back door. I'm too lazy to paint the test samples on the door to pick a color!
