We have a name for our little boy (don't think I will ever get tired of saying that) that we both really like. It's been on my list for years, we stayed in a town of the same name when we were on our cross country road trip last year, and my little niece suggested it a few weeks ago and since then it has stuck in DHs head. He looked up the meaning yesterday just to make sure it doesn't mean anything awful like dirty, smelly hair. When I say it it feels and sound right. I am trying not to share it or say it much so I don't get more attached to it in case we choose something else.
I just have one little negative thing about the name that shouldn't even matter but I wanted to get some opinions on it. My ex (a good friend's brother) who was my first serious bf that I lost my virginity too has a son with the same name. I haven't seen the boy in 3 years (at friend's wedding), he has no idea who I am. I rarely ever see my ex or his kids (who live mostly with their mother) except for the rare occasion I go to one of my friend's family functions. DH has no clue about this and I don't want to tell him unless I absolutely need to and I'm sure he will tell me I am being irrational and it doesn't matter that an ex I haven't seen in 3 years has a son that, if it wasn't for friend's wedding, I would probably never see in my life besides in my friend's FB pictures. And to make it even more irrational, the ex and I broke up 19 years ago when I was 15. We stayed friends since we lived across the street from each other, went to the same high school and graduated together, and his sister is one of my closest friends. But the only contact we have is when we run into each other at one of their family functions.
Please tell me I am being irrational and none of this should matter. I know that is how I should feel but can't get this little thought out of the back of my head.
Re: We may have a name
I'm with you, I would be having the same thoughts, just b/c.
I would still go with what you want to name him. There are bound to be duplicate names and it's not like you picked it b/c of him, it's b/c of what you wanted.
Shoot we have duplicate names on this board, so I wouldn't worry about it. But I would take your worry as a sign of respect for just "making sure" even if you know it doesn't matter.

You're being irrational and none of this should matter.
If it's a name both of you love, then I say go for it. You have no connection to your ex anymore and his child is certainly no connection to you. I would focus more on the name being connected with that wonderful road trip y'all took. That has more meaning than anything.
And now I'm super curious and want to know his name
And because I love the name, I will share it and get your opinions on it (not that it would stop us from choosing the name). The name is Cody. We probably won't come up with a middle name until we decided 100% on the name.
I love it!
Personally I think that since he is the one who first suggested the name (as well as your niece) that the ex stuff shouldn't matter. I might have a different opinion if you had seen the name first (and only from ex's son), and brought it to your DH's attention and really pushed it on him.
Also from what I have heard people come upon names they fall in love with from all sorts of sources. So an ex's(whom you remained friends with after you broke up a really long time ago) son just happens to have the same name. I don't think that anyone will notice and ask "oh did you name him after your ex's son?"

Aww, I love the name and totally think you should use it regardless.
BTW, that was quick. Yesterday you said you all were going to start talking names and one day later, you have one.

It totally shocked me. I've had a name list in my head since high school so for me to go through names is easy. But for DH to go on the internet to look at names and say he likes Cody and it's been stuck in his head since my niece said it was a shock. Less than 12 hours after finding out it was a boy he was looking at names. The thing is it's the only name we have discussed and haven't made the commitment to the name just yet. Hopefully tonight.
It was meant to be!!
At my OB appointment last week my doctor was like," Goodluck picking a name when you find out the gender next week". We just looked at her and was told her we have them picked out either way. She was shocked that we were already that decisive because apparently most other parents fight about it for the longest time.

Great name! I was thinking Jackson since you said it was from your road trip.

We totally went in to our ultrasound with a definite name of Abigail Olivia picked out for a girl, no changing our minds. We found out it was a girl and by the time we pulled in to our driveway 20 minutes later she was Isabella Faithe. LOL!
