H and I decided this fall I would go back to school. I'm torn if I want to go to school for Early Ed. Or if I should go for accounting. Talk to me about the fun/joys of being a teacher. And where you went to school, how long it took...
All that fun stuff!
TIA
Re: Teachers Come in Please!
I love teaching, but it's not something I would go in if you are at all unsure. Early Education is particularly up in the air right now because of Brandstad's cuts to funding preschool. The market is also saturated with teachers, our district has 400 applicants for 1 position.
The joys of teaching include never having the same thing happen day after day. It's always a surprise and I could not make up some of the stuff that has happened if I tried. I love getting to know 24 different children and working with them over the course of the year. The growth you see is so inspiring, and incredibly rewarding.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I loved teaching (staying home with DD right now). It was so much fun to be part of the kids' lives and seeing them when things clicked for them. It's hard for me to tell you how I knew it's what I wanted to do- I just knew from the time I was little. However, there were some women that I taught with who went into education for other reasons and they really weren't happy. It requires a ton of patience, flexibility, long hours, and ability to think on your feet. More and more it also requires tons of paper work!!
I went to Central in Pella for my ed degree and it took 4 years. I know a few people who have gone through other programs and it took around 2 depending on what they had in their other undergrad classes.
Let me know if you have questions or want to talk about it further- it's one of my passions!
I am a secondary English teacher, but I would echo the whole abundance of teachers right now. We get 100 plus applicants at the HS level, but I have heard it is a lot more lower and with preschool being on the chopping block, I would honestly think it could get worse.
Teaching is amazing, but I am sure my experiences at the HS are a lot different than those in early education. Teaching is demanding but very rewarding.
