My heart is broken and feelings hurt....
So, like I said today was our testing today. I had a group of 6th graders and the other SPED teacher had a group of 4. On our testing schedule it said to take them to lunch at 12. So, we did. I sent my group on with the other teacher because I had to escort one to the bathroom (they aren't allowed to go alone on test days....cheating etc).
So, I get to the cafeteria and one of the 4th grade teachers is all worked up because we cut in front of her class. I apologized profusely and said we didn't know. We just followed the schedule. She then said, "Well, I just feel like since my kids will actually pass the test, they deserve their full lunch time."
I informed her in front of 9 other teachers that my kids work hard. My kids all pass the test too and they also deserve their full lunch. Then I walked off and ate in my room......
It just makes me sad because I forget sometimes that other teachers still think my kids are stupid and it really hurts my heart because they aren't. I have kids that take the regular test just like everyone else and get commended on them. The only difference is, they can't read but we can read it to them. So. tell me....how are they stupid then?

You have the patience of a saint. I would've pulled her aside and gone off on her - I was seeing red when I read her comment. People are so freaking ignorant, it's ridiculous.
I'm so sorry Ash. It seems like you work so hard with them, and they don't get the respect they deserve. That's not fair.

I totally agree! I really think you should report her to....whoever it is you report unacceptable behaviour to. Her comment was wrong on so many levels.

I can't believe how ignorant some people can be. I'm so sorry Ash!!
I would report her but the person I would go to is a principal. Our principal is great in most aspects...except confrontation. She won't do anything about it.
Also, getting a teacher fired after 3 years basically takes them committing murder or a SERIOUS offense. We have tenure after 3 years. She's been here over 20 possibly 30.
I can take all the comments they say about me. I don't care but when it comes to my kids I want to tear them apart. My kids work hard and just because they need some extra support doesn't mean they are stupid.
She may as well have knifed my heart. It would hurt less.
I'm applying for a diagnostician job at a high school campus (they have way less drama). Beth, the other sped teacher and friend is applying at another district hear her home (she drives 1.5 hours one way). We've both had enough and maybe they'll learn when we're gone.....
