Kinda' funny story from the hospital

The following happened on Monday night as I was recovering after surgery.  I had just "woken up" and was in a lot of pain, but I was with it enough to hear the following.

They had just wheeled some young guy into the recovery area next to me, and in the course of only a few minutes (although who knows how long it really was since I was half with it)  I must have heard him say "$hit" about 5 times.  The nurse says "how would you rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10?" and he says "$hit. I feel great! Thank you God! Thank you Baby Jesus!"

Nurse walks away.  I continue to hear "$hit.  Thank you Baby Jesus.  Thank you Baby Jesus" repeatedly.  I was just hoping they'd give me whatever he was on, because he was clearly having a great time and I felt near death.

Next I hear "Oh $hit! I'm gonna' pi$$!" and the nurse comes running back over.  I hear her say something about using the bed urinal, and he tells her he doesn't know how to use it (??).  At that point the curtain between us got yanked closed (Thank God and Baby Jesus) and I didn't have to hear the rest of that scene play out.

Perhaps the funniest comment the guy made was when he asked the nurse "Can I look around?" and the nurse says "Can you look around?" and he says "Yeah, like can I look around the room" and she says "Uhh. Sure.  You can look around" all confused.

He was making more bizarre comments but at that point I was being wheeled away and didn't get to hear any more.

The end.

  • Give me whatever he was on!

I have a sort of funny story from when I was in the hospital.  One of the nurses came into my room to give me medicine and said "where are you at" and I said "Um, Saint Joes, Ann Arbor", and she started laughing hysterically.  She said "I meant where are you at on a pain scale".  We joked about it every time she came back in :)

  • hahaha oh my gosh, that's funny.

Those drugs do crazy things to do - for example:

When I was 15 I had a spinal fusion surgery and as the doctors were putting me under my parents were by my bed and the last thing I remember saying is "I feel like I'm drunk!" and then I was out haha. Needless to say my parents (who were pretty strict) were like um, how does she know what that feels like?? The funny thing was, I'd never even had a drink at that point.

Also, when I woke up from that surgery I was really out of it and when I finally saw my mom I told her the nurse was being a b*tch lol. Well, I couldn't move at all - could only see straight ahead of me, and had no idea the nurse was at the side of my bed. Oops!

  • Oh, i have an embarrassing hospital story too.  I got an epi with Summer, and the anesthesiologist came in with full surgery gear.  Hat, mask, scrubs, and foot botties :)  I couldn't help but think I knew him, just by his eyes.  After he left the nurse was making notes in the computer and I noticed his name and I totally knew him.  He was my ex-boyfriends old roommate.  I was totally embarrassed that he had just seen me pretty much completely naked Embarrassed
  • These stories are funny. After I got my wisdom teeth pulled, they handed me to my mom, and told her I was still a little high. I was like "No..no! Don't tell her that!" It was awkward for me. I think I was 16 yrs old.

Hahaha! I'm a nurse at St Joe's and I ask patients that on a regular basis. My patients are generally old and confused though. Big Smile

I really need to start writing down what patients say though. It would make a great book! One day I was admitting a young man. As part of the admission process, we have to ask if they want to see a member of clergy. They come by and give communion, prayer, or just say hi. He started to look worried and said, "I thought I was doing ok."

What part of the hospital do you work in? I've been really happy with the hospital both times I've stayed there.

Well...I worked in the SICU step down on 2North. They just closed that unit in February, so now I float all around. I mainly stick to the PCU and ICU units. Those are the units with cardiac monitors. I love Saint Joe's. I delivered my son there and had a really great experience!
