Am lost/in need of a hair cut... help!

I posted here a long while back to introduce myself then, like a complete idiot, promptly forgot all about TN. DH and I are still feeling like total newbies to the area and as I was beginning to feel sorry for myself wondering how I was ever going to find a decent place to get a hair cut... I finally remembered that you lovely ladies were full of wonderful suggestions last time I was in need.

So, where would you recommend I chop off my hair in the Gardiner/Augusta area? I'm kind of amazed by the number of salons around here, but am equally scared by the looks of some of them. I'm not a very high maintenance girl and am not looking to pay an arm and a leg, but on the same note am in serious need of a good cut -my last attempt at trying a new place was an epic fail.

Recommendations are welcomed!

  • Lux in Hallowell is supposed to be really great! I haven't been, but I have co-workers that go. I think it's a little more upscale, but not too bad...we need Shuga on this, I bet she knows some good places!

Sadly, I've lived around here most of my life and still don't have a stylist.(I had one up until 7 months ago, but then she decided the week before my wedding she wasn't going to do my hair so I haven't been back) For now I go see my friend in Bangor when I go there to visit.

  • I have heard good things about Lux too...mostly from Shuga, as I think that's where she goes.

However, I have been going to Shannon at People's Salon in Waterville. They are really inexpensive. I think $25 or $35 for haircut (I can't remember), and they are all really into continuous education, so are always going to seminars, classes, etc. Shannon is awesome. She actually takes the time to explain how she's styling my hair and what to do, etc (I'm an idiot when it comes to girly stuff like that, so it's really helpful for me). Plus my hair always looks awesome when she's done! I love it there!

Ugh me too. I need someone to tell me what style I need, or at the very least suggest something... I'm clueless and apparently suck at describing what I want, because I have yet to get it.

Thanks to you both for your suggestions!

  • Yep. I go to Lux and I would tell anyone to go there.  Both Nathan, the owner, and Michelle are fantastic. I've been going there for about 8 years. Love it.
  • I've had good experiences with People's in Waterville also. I've been to The Senator in Augusta several times, the prices aren't that cheap, but they're really good and the day of your appointment you can go in hours early and use their spa facilities for free - pool, hottub, sauna, steam room, exercise room, yoga classes, etc.!
