DH called plumber, who fortunately came yesterday afternoon. Drain cleared out, and plumber marked on the driveway where our pipe is, then in the neighbors' backyard where the two meet. Obviously in the middle of the sinkhole! Neighbor's son (who lives there w/his wife and young daughter) was home to let DH and plumber into their backyard.
Plumber marked pipe w/wooden stake and marked the perimeter w/spray paint. Poor guy almost fell in, DH showed me a spot where he put his foot and the ground was so soft, it caved in. DH asked what to do from here, and plumber said nothing. He would call city and notify them of the pipe. Apparently nothing gets moving until a professional contacts the city; so glad gov't works for the people. Plumber said we should be contacted in the next few days. [crosses fingers]
christie - I just found out myself that housing court exists, so I'm of no help for info!
Lisa - do you think there may be an issue w/your drainage tiles if your yard floods even though your yard is the lowest?
Re: f/u water in basement
Well I'm glad you were able to get a professional out there.
And I have no idea about the drainage tiles. Luckily our house has never flooded. Actually on the seller's disclosure the old owners said "during heavy rains in 2007 slight puddling of water by the back fence." Fast forward for 4th of July 2008 right after we closed our whole yard was flooded. Slight puddling my A$$. We've been trying to figure out what to do, mostly we put a sub pump out and pump the water out to the road to the drain.
So some progress in the right direction, wonder what the neighbors are going to say! I'm not sure if the city guys went to their door and talked to them.
