Good place for overnight get away with child?

DH and I are going to go away overnight in May with LO. Any fun places within 2-3 hours of southern cities that are good for a kid? Not really water park as she is too little but swimming would be good. We just HAVE to get away!

Re: Good place for overnight get away with child?

  • We went up to Duluth last summer for a one night getaway and stayed at Inn on Lake Superior. DD was 20 months at the time, and she loved it. She could have sat on the boardwalk and throw rocks in the lake for an entire morning.

The hotel was great - indoor pool, plus an outdoor heated one almost like a hot tub on the roof. They have a fire with s'mores every night, and you're right downtown, so you can walk around, do the typical Duluth things. We had fun, think we're going to do the same thing this summer but for a longer time.

I just looked up their website and it says 2 night stay required... did you call to get one night?

  • We usually go on vacation on a weeknight or Sunday night, is the 2 night min just for weekends maybe? I don't remember to be honest. But it would be worth a call, if they're hurting for business at all in this economy, they might book you for 1 night, and May isn't peak time up there yet.

  • From as far back as I remember I liked going to Duluth.  Although, I can only remember far enough back to be able to go rock jumping J

I am a big fan of the group coupon sites and I watch several of them regularly.  I have bought a few overnight stays that are all around the twin cities ? none are jumping out as kid friendly right now, but I know a man in our office bought a Groupon and took his kids to a hotel up north with a water park.  If I see anything come by soon, I will let you know.  I am going to Water Street Inn in Stillwater at some point before July (a coupon deal).  I like Stillwater ? they often have activities going on so you can check out the event schedule.  Kids are always paying in the grass along the river and there is cute candy and malt shops.

  • 1.A ?Reserve & Relax? deal at the Sheraton Duluth Hotel (deal base rates the discount, this is 22% less than normal price, and not that great of a deal, but something to look at):

Same hotel with a Kids eat free, kids snacks and late check out: http://www.dealbase.com/Duluth-MN/Sheraton-Duluth-Hotel-deals/Make-Lasting-Memories-Package-85209

2.There are also a couple deals in Red Wing MN.  Moondance starts at $125/night.  Candlelight Inn has a couple deals on Trubates and one is a $74 for a one night getaway (call so see if the DD can come under the deal): http://www.trubates.com/red-wing-mn/offer/9811/74-for-159-one-night-getaway-for-two-heritage-suite/
