Derm Recs?

I've been breaking out a lot since going off the pill (blaming the hormones) - I'm 30, dudes, I can't be slathering acne gel on my face!

I think it's time to suck it up and see a derm - expensive skin care products aren't cutting it, and I worry about the drying effect since I'm not getting any younger!  Any recs for local dermatologists I can check out?

Re: Derm Recs?

  • I see Dr. Wilson with Iowa Health 241-2000 sute450 http://www.dermatologypc.com/ I really like him, he remembers you. Which is important to me, especially when I only see him once a year.

Sorry if someone else likes him, but I DID NOT like Dr. Abrahamson, He didn't want to remove a mole of mine, I had to BEG to have him do it, I didn't trust it, turns out it was pre-cancerious. Glad I begged, but I shouldn't have had to.

  • I go to Heartland Dermatology in Clive. I specifically see Dr. Feldman, but have heard good things about Dr. Angeloni as well.
  • I see Dr. Feldman as well. She is the only female derm in DM (shockingly!), which for some reason was important to me. I am more particular about female derms than gynocologists! haha! I guess since I figure a girl might get my skin care problems and their relation to hormones better.

We see Ava Feldman for Ana's birth mark. She is awesome. We were forced to see Angeloni once and I absolutely did not care for him at all. We won't be seeing him again.

FWIW - I'm not sure a derm is going to help. Most likely the problem is the hormone balance. Since I've been taking massive doses of estrogen pills I am a huge pizza face right now too. We can be unfortunate looking together.  :)  The good news is that once you get pregnant, your face will look awesome again.  :) More motivation, right?  lol

  • I see Dr. Angeloni and like him just fine.  I had a basal cell spot removed and see him yearly.  He is patient with my monkeys along which I appreciate.

  • I used to take Proactiv and also a prescription acne med (from the derm.) but now I just wash my face with Norwex face cloths (somewhat shameless plug) and I very very rarely breakout anymore. They are awesome at removing make-up and are anti-bacterial so they are getting rid of any nasties that are on your face/in your pores.
