Creative mamas: enter!

Has anyone done any DIY projects for the baby's nursery? I'm planning on making curtains, crib skirt and pillow. Please share your projects with me and give me some inspiration!

Re: Creative mamas: enter!

  • I will throw you some pictures tonight- but I did the crib skirt following young house love and I LOVE it- it was so easy and its super easy to velcro on- Link below.

I also made a blanket, curtains, pillow for the rocker, and the mobile. I will shoot pics over tonight (was hoping to blog entire nursery but still missing dresser and changing table - dad really needs to hurry and keep the rain away)

The mobile was also very easy. I included pics- just made pinwheels and affixed to twine and hung from quilting square.

  • Impressive.  The last thing I could think about while I was pregnant was DIY-ing anything, so unfortunately I got nothing to offer....

Omg! Thank you so much! I've been looking for a crib skirt pattern and thinking about making a mobile. I would live to see photos of your finished nursery!

I'm just trying to save money and also our wall color is really hard to match pre-made stuff. Samantha's room looks great and matches really well!
  • I haven't done these projects yet because we don't have a nursery set up here in this house since we're moving but here are a couple I plan on doing:

    - mobile, one will just be a basic painted shapes mobile, the other will be hand sewn animals (probably birds, maybe whales).

    - Name/initial collage to be framed and hung above crib

    - sewn blocks and balls for Alex to play with.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

We have such similar tastes! I want whales too! I'm hoping to do a nautical theme.

I think the only DIY thing I did was framing cropped pieces of wallpaper border.  So crafty, I am...

LOL, We're going for a nautical theme!  We have some sheets that were gifted to us but that's about it right now.  I haven't been motivated to do much with a nursery since I knew we weren't going to do one in this house and it wasn't certain when we would find and buy our own house.  If I could crochet I would make these:

Lol! This comment reminds me and I wanted to tell you. My husband wants to dress the baby up as yoda for Halloween and put him in the baby carrier. My husband wants to dress up as Luke and carry the baby around on his back. I love my nerdy husband!
  • Here's the pattern for the beach balls:

I also thought this little truck was pretty cute:

I can't find the site that had the easy mobile on it or the sewn whales...as soon as I figure out where I saved them I'll pass them along to you too.

  • The only real DIY I did was I painted a white dresser periwinkle and I changed out the knobs. then I added a changing pad to the top and voila! instant changing table.
  • DIY Book Slings!  My mom's going to help me with these, though that'll probably happen on maternity leave:

I think they're so cute!  We'll pick out a more girly or boyish fabric once the baby's born and then go from there.

I LOVED this nursery! I saw it linked in one of the blogs I follow. Great room. Ugh. So many good inspirations.

  • I plan on making the crib skirt, curtains and blanket/quilt ( whichever I have the time/patience for).

I found this site that showes a different way to make the skirt. I like how the skirt can "grow" with the bed and you can always have it touching the floor no matter how high/low the matress is set.

  • The only thing I sort of made myself was the alphabet letters. I only picked out the fonts and painted them. I didn't carve them or anything lol.

My MIL made the quilt for the bedding and quilted his name for over his crib. I just purchased a plain ivory crib skirt, bumper, and breathable bumper. I got 2 crib sheets that are plain blue. I think I spent maybe $80 total for that stuff. I haven't even opened the breathable bumper nor have I actually used the regular bumper and I may take them back if we don't use them. I didn't make curtains or anything. Just got Ivory roman shades.

There are some pics in my bio if you're interested but like I said, I didn't actually make anything lol

Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

I saw this one as well, however, I got my crib from pottery barn and it doesnt have springs... its a flat wood base. It wouldnt have worked for me. I have it set at the lowest setting right now and plan to just hem it as the crib is lowered.
