Long car rides with baby

Any advice? We will be driving to South Carolina tomorrow. Hoping to get most of the driving done during his longer stretch of sleep. I appreciate any tips.

Re: Long car rides with baby

  • Sit in the back with him when it's not naptime.  That way he won't feel lonely for such a long time.

Good luck!  The farthest we've driven with DD was to Orlando and she was 15 months old.

  • i think the longest we've done is about 4 hour drives with james. we always leave him alone in the back unless we're traveling with another couple. we have a few of his favorite toys ready, a couple bottles and try to plan around nap/sleep times if possible. james tends to fall asleep in the car anyway though so he has generally slept almost straight through on most trips, especially when he wass younger.
  • If he has a music or white noise animal, like the seahorse or sleep sheep, take that because he might wake up and need some convincing.
  • I agree with DP. Take along any music or books he finds soothing. For us it was either reciting Brown Bear for hours, SSHHHHHH loudly or finally the static on the radio.

    I hope things go smoothly!
