I'm really puzzled and hoping you can help.
I am the soul "dish washer" in the house, so I know what's going into our dishwashing machine. I rinse everything and have used the same brand tablet that came as a "sample" when the dishwasher was installed. I might forget once in a while to check the rinse-aid, but other than that, I've taken very good care of the dishwasher as it has a white interior and I didn't want stains, etc messing it up.
And lo and behold, for the last week there's been this orange-tannish gunk...when you open the dishwasher door, I see it collected at the bottom of the door itself - a thin line of it...and in the bottom of the dishwasher, when I pull the drainer and pieces apart, it's just absolutely caked with this mushy stuff. Same color.
None of it stains. We haven't had pasta or anything that would produce this color (again, everything is rinsed - oh, and the sink's garbage disposal is run before every single use).
It's very gross. I've tried running the dishwasher on empty with the temp boost to "sanitize" but it doesn't do anything to reduce the gunk.
What gives? Any advice?
Re: Dishwasher gunk
Sounds like the same stuff that makes a ring in an otherwise clean toilet or around the sink drain. Some sort of mold.
How would I get rid of it? How did it get there? I haven't had mold in those other areas, so I'm not sure how to combat it.
