F/U on the girls
The bad news:
They are growing and their bio-physical profile (breathing and movement) is perfect, but B's blood flow study is still abnormal. I saw a different Dr. in the practice today and he used the words placental disease. I asked if B's part of the placenta was detereorating rapidly or at a "normal" rate and he said it was normal. They di not know from the two studies that have been done if I will still be delivering early, or how early.
I asked if the disease was an acute thing and he said generally no, this is where something doesn't form right from the very beginning, but that it doesn't get noticed until the last trimester as that is when the need for nutrients increases, thus making it more visible.
I know I have done everything I am supposed to do, but I still feel depressed and I feel like I am letting them down somehow. Also, that since I have no symptoms of pre-e that it is likely that I could have this in a subsquent pregnancy.
He said that I should be able to make it to 32 weeks - which I feel mostly ok about.
The "good news": Baby B had her feet on Baby A's face, so that was cute and that made me smile a little.

You have done great so don't beat yourself up at all!!! Twin pregnancies come with their risks and that's just the way it is. The docs seem to have a good handle on your situation. It's also good that they are preparing you for the likliehood of an early delivery. I think that will help you a lot if you do face some NICU time, I know it helped me tremendously. It was still hard but I knew it was coming so I had time to prepare to not take them home with me when I went home and all of the other emotional roller coasters of the NICU.
My guys were 32 weekers and they are doing fantastic now. I have a lot of other twin friends that were earlier than that and all are doing great!

Well, the good news is they think you will make it to 32 weeks, which will buy you a little more time to grow the babies on the inside. I will be praying for you and your girls that everything will work out and this will just be a little bump in the road.

My sister delivered her twins at exactly 32 weeks when her water broke. She was scheduled to start getting the shots to boost the babies lungs the following week. The smaller twin did have some breathing issues but overcame it quickly and they were both out of the NICU within 2 weeks. The twins are now 7 months old and are right on track developmentally with no health issues.
