Summer clicky poll: Do you wear shorts?
I have a body shape that works really well with dresses and skirts but I look a fat tourist in shorts. I honestly think skirts flatter almost all women more than shorts do.
Thoughts?

Re: Summer clicky poll: Do you wear shorts?
I rarely wear shorts and then only if it's a necessity - like at the Fourth of July parade I usually wear a pair of short khaki shorts so that I dont flash anyone unwittingly and bc it can be hot as hell then. I'll also sometimes wear shorts just around the house.
now bermuda shorts I wear a lot more, but I like the way I look in them more than regular shorts. For some reason I think regular shorts are very unflattering on me.
I wear a lot of cropped pants, skirts and sundresses in the summer.
You know I'm right there with you on the skirt love. I'm long waisted, short legged and pear shaped. There is no such thing as a pair of shorts that truly looks good. I have some that look "not horrible" but that's as good as it gets.
I wear shorts to work in the yard, or go for a run - or MAYBE to something like a BBQ where we're going to be running around playing kickball or something, but otherwise I'm skirts all the way.

I'm the opposite of everyone that replied so far. I wear shorts all the time but rarely wear skirts/dresses. I find that most skirts/dresses don't look good on me-my butt's too big and I can never find a style that looks good. Shorts, on the other hand, seem to look better, and I'm not very pale which works out nice. I wear Bermudas and shorter ones but I look better in longer ones. I wear skirts/dresses too but not as often as shorts.
Oh dear - yeah, most people don't have your toned legs. Skirts hide the jiggle. Shorts...well, not so much.
ETA: changed wording so it didn't sound like I was lumping everybody else here in with my in the flabby leg club.

but then again, if you don't have great legs (which I certainly don't) there's the thighs rubbing together issue with skirts

Summer's are pretty much a mess for me.
I have fat white legs, genetically pre-disposed to cankles and feet that swell any time the humidity is up. I have found bermudas is the least bad option for me most of the time. I'll wear a dress or skirt if the event calls for it, but overall, bermudas are the most comfortable for me. I have a few pairs in black, khaki and red.
I am firmly in this camp. I love dresses and skirts, but between the thigh rubbing and the fact that cute shoes don't exist for me, I'm a mess in the warmer months. I'd LOVE to wear maxi dresses, but I think they'd look horrendous on me.
PSA - re the chafing thigh issues - bike shorts are your friend!
I'm not sure if it really nets out as a win in the "keep-you-cool" department, but it does eliminate the chaffing; solid deodorant works in a pinch too.
That's what baby powder is for...or, that stuff runners use. body glide? is that what's it's called?
Although i'm pretty sure that 95% of the female population has thighs that touch. I had chafing 30 pounds ago when I wore a size 6.

Re: Thighs rubbing
I think Slumber Parties or some business in that camp sells stuff that reduced chafing.

I am a short lover, but probably because I have a difficult time finding pants that fit nicely without being too short or too long. I am lucky enough to be too short for regular length pants and too tall for short length pants and I'm too cheap to get my clothes altered.
This. I don't wear short shorts... I like the bermuda shorts the best.
I have a really hard time finding shorts that fit. My waist is smaller than my butt and I always have a hard time finding pants, but it is next to impossible to find shorts. I love short skirts except for the thigh rubbing. I am a huge fan of the skort.
Oh, I definitely still have the leg rubbing too! For marathon training I had to rub body glide on my thighs. It was a lifesaver!
This- I prefer dresses to skirts and shorts. I find them more comfortable and so much easier to put on one dress vs. a top and shorts, top & skirt. I do have a 2 pairs of shorts, one that I really like and wish I had bought multiple pairs of- that being said they are for around the house, playgroup, etc.
I am not a big capri fan as I feel that they are the pant equivalent of the tea length dress/skirt and depending on what part of the leg they end at can be supremely unflattering...
I have two identical pairs of khaki bermuda shorts that I love...I wear them all summer. I also bought a pair of shorter shorts from AT last year...they are as short as I will go and I think they're a 3 inch inseam? Standing up, they look great...it's when I sit down...
I also have the really pale legs that others have talked about - I smell like sunless tanner throughout the summer.
I have some skirts, but they're mostly for work. I have a few dresses, but I have to be careful with the length since I have a long torso and don't want them to get to short.
Thinking back to the short shorts I wore in high school and college...yikes!
