Pregnancy/Parenting Class Question?

I guess it's getting to be about that time for me to look into classes lol

I think we are going to do a cpr class, we both feel like we would be more comfortable with that.
This said, there are two choices, one is the Accident Prevention and CPR class, which will cover CPR for infants, children and adults.
The other class is First Aid for Infants and Children. This one is not CPR certified.

Do you think just taking the Accident Prevention/CPR class would suffice?

Thanks!

Re: Pregnancy/Parenting Class Question?

  • We took the accident prevention class and it was a joke to be honest.  They do some basic CPR stuff and the acccident prevention is like - don't put baby in the oven, check the temperature of water, don't leave baby alone in tub...type of stuff.  Maybe it was just the instructor we had, but we felt like it was a waste.

I wish we had take the full CPR class through the Red Cross instead and gotten (re-) certified.  That's my rec.

  • Wait - just re-read your post - so the CPR in accident prevention is certified now? If so, that might be worth it.  If not, don't bother.

  • Not necessarily.. I'm re-reading the pamphlet and it says nothing about being certified.

    Damn money making schemes....

  • Agree. The first aid class we took at W&I was VERY basic.  If you've ever had any basic first aid training/exposure, you'll be bored.  The CPR class was much, much more helpful.

Also, check with your health insurance to see if they'll cover the cost of your classes.

  • Definitely take a certified CPR class. We need to actually re-do ours now that it's been 3 years, too long! Better to just fine one through your local Red Cross and then just do your actual childbirth/breastfeeding classes through the hospital/doctor's office.
