anyone buy their car in mass?

what's the deal?  do you have to pay the 1% sales tax difference up front?  anything else weird about it?

Re: anyone buy their car in mass?

  • and i mean, if you're a rhode island resident.
  • I haven't but my only immediate thought is will they still do the registrations and everything for you?
  • I bought a car in RI when I was a CT resident so this info may or may not be helpful.  I did not pay RI sales tax on the car when I bought it, when I brought the car to the CT DMV to register it I had to pay the CT sales tax at that time on top of all the registration fees

  • I bought my Kia in Attleboro

They registered it and everything for me, and there was no difference.

When we bought DH's truck last year, we gave a check made out to the DMV to the dealership, and they wrote in the amount of sales tax+registration when they registered it for us. So, I think the process would be the same for buying in MA - don't pay the dealership the tax, but pay when you (or they) register the car in RI.

  • I don't remember anything about the tax, but do know that they will register it for you!  Bought DH's Tundra in Dartmouth and my CRV in Seekonk.
  • I bought my first car in MA. They did the registration & all that jazz. I don't remember there being any difference for the tax
