Looking for a mother's helper

H and I are looking for a housekeeper who can spend some time in our home and get to know our family. Someone who can help out with errands, some cooking, and possibly provide child care when needed. I put a post on care.com and I am seriously finding something wrong with every applicant. It is hard to make a decision like this. We have Molly Maids coming twice a month but I am just looking for something more personal. Someone I can give a key to and trust to be here when I am not home.

Does anyone have any tips for me?? Except maybe to lighten up?

  • DH's employee's wife is a nanny, and I think she's looking for work. She's a really sweet girl and amazing with kids, they have a baby boy and I swear to you he is the most well behaved kid I've ever seen!  If you want I can forward the info to her, feel free to e-mail me the details. jennynicole at me dot com
  • Thanks! One question though...does she clean? We are looking to get rid of Molly Maids so cleaning is actually the most important aspect of the job. I will e-mail you some info, I appreciate it!
  • You might want to look for someone who is either graduating hs or who is in college to help you out.  I was a nanny for a summer after I graduated college.  It was for someone my mom worked with.  You may want to ask people you know if they know of anyone (this way it isn't an exact stranger) who would be interested.  HTH.

Thanks! I am actually looking for someone a little older. I did nanny in college and loved it, but I am looking for something a little more permanent. I wish I knew someone to ask, but I don't! I posted on a local moms group board because I know people on there use nannies...but I am not necessarily looking for a nanny. More or a housekeeper who can help out with the babies if I needed it. We have very reliable child care already, luckily!

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure it's something she'd be open to, just e-mail me the goods and I'll forward it and talk to her! Stick out tongue

  • If you lived in Orlando I know someone who would be a good fit for the job.  A good friend of our family is phasing out their nanny/housekeeper since their kids are grown and now in grade school.  They are actively looking for another family for her.  Plus she is Russian and taught the kids her language.

GL in your search!  I would LOVE to have someone like that but NO CAN AFFORD!

  • We found our former babysitter thru care.com.  She moved back to Tampa and so she left us :-(.  She was WONDERFUL but she is in college.

Someone to come in for a couple hours once or twice a week. It would be 5-10 hours a week. I found a couple of good candidates and am seriously considering a high school girl. I didn't think I wanted someone so young but she seems so put together. I guess I won't know until I meet her.
