H&F Thurs

I am starting this because I had a realization this morning. Fish oil is making me gain weight.

I started taking it a few weeks ago when we decided to TTC in a couple of months. Since then I have gained 4 pounds with no change in diet or exercise (in fact, I am working out more!) and I am starving all the time. A quick check with Dr. Google and it seems like this happens to a minority of people who start taking fish oil. LAME.

This weeks plan - 1300 net cal diet and workouts as follows:

Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun - 3.1 mile run (without stopping to walk - woo hoo! - sort of can't believe I can do it.)

Tue, Thur - EA Sports Active and weight training

Sat - Rest day

  • I haven't worked out once this week so far. Yep. That's all I got. Maybe I'll get around to it on Saturday.

  • I did yoga last night!!  Okay, well I did at least 15 minutes of my 30 minute work out video before I collapsed during a chatteronga or however you spell that.  Also, I have one of those huge work out balls and I did an ab excercise.  I was so proud of myself.  That is all.

    Good job! I need a healthy cycle buddy. I guess I am slacking. I should get on it.

  • I have done crap all week since I pinched a nerve in my back 2 weeks ago.  I was supposed to do the OKC Half on Sunday but that is SO not happening.

    I think I'm up for running Central Market's Thrill of the Grill 5k on Saturday.  It's at the CM in Plano.  Anyone up for it?

  • I've had a cold and missed over a week at the gym.  Then it was my birthday and I had two steaks and two creme brulees in 4 days, plus birthday cake.  I went to Body Pump on Monday and I'm still sore.  I did manage to walk yesterday and plan to walk today but I've about deciced I'll just start over next week after my trip.

    My DH does Triathlons. He's doing his 3rd Ironman next month, actually! I tried to get into it, he bought me a road bike and everything. Let's just say, tri's aren't my thing. I am going to stick to running where my feet are on the pavement.

    But, it's a wonderful sport if you get into it. I love supporting my DH. It's an expensive sport, I will warn you.

    Wow.  I did not know this.  Since January I have been taking 3 pills a day most days except lately I'm lucky if I have had 1 in a couple of weeks. 

    AFM, with the exception of Tuesday I have worked out every day since Friday or Saturday and I doubt I will be doing anything tonight because of class.  It has been nothing strenuous- just 10 minutes or so on the elliptical on level 3 or so and another 10 minutes or so doing weight exercises and then back to the elliptical for a bit.  Instead of jumping into ChaLean head first and killing myself, I wanted to ease into it and I think it worked out better this way.  Last night after I was done, I was like "OK, what's next?!?"  And my right knee has been weird.

    I will start ChaLean next week though.

    I tried making a green monster last night; I had strawberries, fresh spinach, a seedless cucumber and that Kefir stuff you told me about last week Leslie.  It didn't turn out so good so I don't know how well this will work.

  • I went to the gym once this week! Seriously, that's a major accomplishment lately. And I have been wearing my bodybugg and recording what I'm eating. Of course, I've been eating Easter candy all week, but at least I'm keeping track of it. I'm slowly getting back on track.
  • I've never tried fish oil but I like to take flaxseed capsules but can only take them a few times a week because if I take one a day every day, my hair and skin get oily.

  • Well I gained like 4 pounds being on my honeymoon....and my plan was to come back and get right back into working out, but so far that hasn't happened.  I am still so worn out from the honeymoon!  But I plan to restart P90X today!

  • I've only worked out one time this week. I've been busy (lousy excuse I know) and I ate a ton this weekend due to the anniversary. But I'm working out tonight when C gets off and I usually work out weekends so I'll be getting back into it.

    As far as diet, I've been munching on Lauren's chocolates from the wedding and some candy (I gave it up for Lent) so my diet has been pretty crappy this week.

  • I'm go glad someone started this thread.  This is for the girls who run,  I'm working C25K and I'm on week 4 and my calves are so tight and sore I can hardly make it through 1 running interval.  I ran yesterday and literally hobbled back to my car. This can't be good for me. I think that I may have possibly over overworked them.  Any suggestions??
  • Valerie - Do you stretch before and after your run?  Wear good supportive running shoes?  This will help immensely.

    I would probably walk for the next few workouts and let your muscles rest.  I would not stop altogether though or it would be super hard to jump back into the same place.  For me, at least.

  • I  have some good running shoes, and I do strech afterward.  I'm going to try streching before also, I guess I usually forget.  After the 5 min warm up walk I usually just start running. 

    Good idea to walk for a few workouts, thanks for the suggestions!

    I'm the same way, if I stop its so hard to get back into it!

  • Valerie - do you use a foam roller before or after you run?  When you run, knots builds up in your legs and just stretching doesn't get rid of it.  Using a foam roller breaks up the knots in places that you just can stretch out.

    You can find rollers really cheap and it's simple to do!  It definitely helps me out a lot.
