Amanda & other bakers: red food coloring?
I am making my kids' birthday cakes (Mickey & Minnie Mouse), and although I know I could get the pink I want for Shannon's cake, I don't know what brand of food coloring (paste?) will get me a true red frosting.
Any suggestions on brand and where to buy?
Re: Amanda & other bakers: red food coloring?
I used the red gel dye from Duff Goldman when I needed red for my son's Thomas the Train cake. I bought it at Michael's.

I usually use a brand from the Wholesale Supply store I go to because the Wilton red you have to use SO much and it makes your icing taste off.
I have not tried any of the Duff stuff yet.
DD's theme for her 2nd bday was Calliou, and I made cupcakes with really bright red, blue, yellow and green frosting.
I used the Target brand food coloring. The colors were great and I didn't have to use so much that it over-powered the taste of the frosting. (I think I have some pics on Facebook.)
Good luck!
