So I know most of you who were planning on changing your name already have (myself included), but how many of you have already changed your title and registration to your new name?
I was waiting until my registration was expiring to do to it which is now this month. I just got back from a highly unsuccessful trip to the DMV and am extremely pissed that I have to go back on a Friday (=DMV hell around here). I actually managed to get there when the place was nearly empty and there was no line for anything, but I got in the line for registration renewal not title changes, I needed both obviously (and the lines and the rep desks aren't labeled). A rep finally opens up and I walk up to him and he tells me, "Oh, you need to go stand in the title line." Umm yeah, that would have been great to know when there wasn't 30 people in the line when I got here. I couldn't wait in a 1.5 hr line when I have to leave for work in an hour, so long story short, I am going to try to get there when they open tomorrow.
I miss my old DMV in SC where they had a check in desk that made sure you had all your paperwork and pulled a number for the right line, so you didn't end up waiting forever to find out you were in the wrong line/ missing a crucial document etc... The NC DMV is just a f-ing mess.
AND to end this long rant, a POLL:
Re: Another DMV rant... plus a POLL
I think this is one of my first times with a legitimate reason for selecting SS :O)
The car is technically registered to our IL's. They still pay for insurance (age 26 is their random cut-off, so we get one more year). Plus since our car is registered technically in our hometown; we don't require a City of Chicago parking sticker and save about $125

The only thing left is my title and registration, but I've been putting it off as well. Reason being, I am still paying off my car, thus the leinholder has the title. So I had to request my title to be "released" to me (still waiting to get it).
And in PA I have to take the title and a form in to get my title updated and my registration updated. However I'm 99% sure I can get it done at AAA rather than the DMV because its "titling" services. I'm really hoping I can get it done there because I don't want to deal with the DMV.
When DH just became a PA resident we had to get his license at the DMV (which was hell) but found out we could get his registration switched at AAA and get his new license plate there too which was such a stress and time saver!
You may want to see if you can use another place besides the DMV at least for part of the process!

Everything car related is taken care of.
No wait...insurance still says maiden name. Opps.
Passport is maiden name and one bank account.
Everything else is good to go!
MA switched to this system a few years ago, and it's a god-send. I remember as a kid waiting FOREVER while your parents stood in line to do whatever tedious thing they had to do. When I went to change my name on my license (no car, so that was all I needed to do there), I was in and out in 15 minutes.
Almost everything is changed over now. I still have one store charge that I haven't changed, and my maiden name is still on my mom's checking account because I don't have time to drive 2 hours each way to bring in documentation. Oh, and apparently the university I work for hasn't made the change in their database, even though the division I work for did - I applied for an account with the credit union here, and they told me my name wasn't in the system. It's amazing how many hoops you have to jump through to get anything done here. But passport, credit cards, and my bank accounts were all changed months ago.
I've gotten most everything changed over, so I selected "totally done" - the only things that are remaining are the stupid ones - i.e.: Marriott Rewards, American Airlines frequent flyer card, etc. All bills, titles, insurance, 401K, DMV, Social Security, credit cards, AAA, voter registration, etc. are done.
And let me say - WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT. Really, National Car Rental, you need a copy of my marriage certificate???? :P ~ ~ ~ ~ Totally makes me grouchy.
I still have things on the list. Just put in paperwork to update my official passport since I waited for it to get close to expiring. After it comes back, then I can do my personal one.
These post make me think of the "I forgot" list like gas and water bills, car title, house title (we paid off the mortgage that was in my name in Dec). I am sure more will pop up. Not sure some matter until we go to sell house/car. Not sure the bills really matter either. Never got my sailboat registered after moving to TX so that will be easy to get right from the start.
Oh yea - and I haven't done the "stupid ones" either. Does it really matter for the rewards cards? Ugh.
My bank made me change my title and registration but I was told by the DMV that you don't actually have to change it. So I was pretty pisssed when I paid $75/car to have it changed and I didn't even have to.
I am done with everything, I have some random things that show up with my maiden name but it is mostly junk mail. I haven't renewed my massage license with my new name yet because I am waiting to switch to my IA license instead of IL that I currently have.
I'm a snowflake....
my CC is in my maiden name.....its a hassle to change it but i need to....but im not using it just paying it off.....oi
and my guidance counselor certification and like fitchburg state college stuff......its just obnoxious LOL
Getting fit for IVF!
I've been to the SS office and the DL place. I also changed my name at work (some stupid rule that says you have to do it within 60 days to remain eligible for benefits...). I called the cell company and did that. When my car insurance was set to renew, we cancelled that company and added me to Brad's car insurance and put my new name on it.
But I haven't been to the bank or changed any of my credit cards (except for the one I was able to request a new card online -- it had a drop-down menu for reason...super easy). I have the paperwork to change it on my car loan, but I'm too lazy to fill it out.
I'm just in the middle...
and the other day, I had to sign for something and started out with my maiden name... but I made it work! Go figure.
