Update re: sick dog

Since so many of you had kind words when I posted about Chasey being sick, I wanted to update you. I'm pasting an email DH sent to friends this morning, since he summed it up well.

Chasey has been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of bone cancer. We found out about it a few weeks back when I thought she may have re-torn her ACL. X-rays have confirmed otherwise. We had a follow-up/second opinion consultation with an orthopedic veterinary hospital this morning and the doctor confirmed the terrible news.

The only thing to do at this point is to try and help here manage the pain until such a time when enough is enough. The doctor said she must be a very tough girl, which we all know she is, because bone cancer is very painful. Right now she is only limping and otherwise not letting on that anything is wrong. We were told that at best she probably has anywhere from a few weeks to a few months until we will be beyond pain management and time to put her down. We are certainly hoping for a few more months with her. Think happy thoughts for her please.

Aw, Jess. I'm sorry to hear this too. I'll be thinking about you and your DH. It's so hard losing a pet, but it's always comforting to know that they won't suffer any longer. It sounds like Chasey is a strong one.

Oh Jess, I'm so so sorry. I'm on the verge of tears here at my desk for not only her but you both as well. The loss of a pet can sometimes feel worse than the loss of a (human) family member.

Good luck to Chasey and I can only hope that she lives the rest of her life as pain free as possible. What a trooper. She is a great dog, for sure.

Jess - I am so sorry.. for me the loss of a pet sometimes hits harder than the loss of most humans, because they are such loyal companions/friends/family members. I will be thinking good thoughts for you and your puppy, and hoping for a non-painful remainder of his time here filled with lots of playing, cuddling and doggie-kisses.

I am so sorry you guys have to go through this. It is absolutley heartbreaking. I hope she stays comfortable for as long as possible and you get as much time with her as you can get.
