neighborhood recommendations- Where to move?
Fiance and I currently live about 15 minutes south of Annapolis. His family is in Westminster and we would like to move closer towards them but not necessarily all the way to Westminster. We have been looking in northern AA county, howard, carroll, and wester baltimore county. He would love at least 1/2 an acre of land(but would settle for less if the house was right) and I would like to be in a neighborhood with people close to us in age (30, 35).
Our jobs really allow us to work anywhere so a commute is not a factor for us. Any recommendations would really be appreciated to help us narrow down our search!
Thanks!
Re: neighborhood recommendations- Where to move?
NDM is right, in Sykesville you will likely find a nice lot for your money .. you are almost all the way to Westminster then though. How close or far did you want to be?
We live in Columbia and love it. Great place to raise a family.
Ditto the rec for Sykesville/Eldersburg. It's in southern Carroll County right near the Howard County line. We've lived here for about 4-5 years and it's very nice. There are lots of young families in this area. It's about 30 mins from Westminster. You'd probably be able to find a house in Sykesville or the surrounding area with some land.
DH and I are from the Columbia/Ellicott City area in Howard County and though I love that area (great schools, great neighborhoods), it is more crowded than Carroll County and finding a home there with any amount of land would be tricky (unless you have lots of money).

How important is proximity to shopping, restaurants, etc? Are you looking for more of a city feel or more of a country feel?
If you're looking for a little more country, also check out Finksburg, Hampstead, Manchester, Mt. Airy, and Winfield.
I love the Eldersburg/Sykesville area. We've been here for about 3 years, and have no complaints. People are nice and stores are nearby. Anything that's not here, Westminster is 15-20 mins up the road, Columbia is about a half hour, and it doesn't take all that long to get to Towson, Frederick, or Baltimore.
As long as I can find a job in this area, we'll be buying a home here

That's the only thing I would change...I commute to Hunt Valley every day. I would LOVE a job in Sykesville/Eldersburg too!!!
