Late period .. Negative tests
Hey ladies. I need your advice, opinions, etc. I'm at day 4 past when I usually should have started my period. I have already taken 2 at home pregnancy tests and they were both negative. We weren't trying to conceive but I thought I'd take the tests anyways because it's not normal for me to miss a period. I have never ever missed a period in 13 years of having mine. I know they say stress can cause you to miss but I haven't been stressed, that I know of, and I'm sure there have been other times throughout the time that I have been stressed and have never missed one. I know I'm not that terrible late yet but what should I do? Thanks!

Re: Late period .. Negative tests
Hmmm. Increased stress was my number 1 suggestion. What about increased working out? I agree - any new meds? Have you changed BC?
I feel like 4 days might be too early to tell, like PP said, keep taking home test and if you're worried - schedule an appointment to have a test done by your doctor so you know for sure.
You may have ovulated late so you may not really be "late". Rule of thumb is to test every other day until either (a) you get your period or (b) you get a positive test. If you are still getting negative tests after 60 days with no period, then you need to see an GYN. I don't know about your doctor, but my general practicioner wouldn't run a blood test for me until I was a week late and had a positive HPT.
Sometimes if you are pregnant the HCG in your system isn't ramped up enough (if the fertilized egg isn't implanted yet) to be detected by HPTs. Most HPTs have a low threshold for HCG (you usually don't have more than 5 something in your system and HPTs start picking up at 12, digital are a bit higher at 25...sorry i forget the units of measure) - what kind have you been using? I suggest the digital, because there is no room for guessing or interpretation.
Hope this helped.
hmm i know on the BC i'm on (Nuvaring) some months i get my period (wickedly, sorry if thats TMI) and then other months i wont get it at all! My GYN said that is completely normaly but it always scares me. I'm also under a tiny bit of stress (lol tiny bit) so im sure thats not helping things.
Could it be a situation like mine minus the stress? I had never missed a period either before going on this BC.

Thanks ladies! I bet it is a new medication! I never even thought about that. I started a medicine for high blood pressure a month ago. I actually go back to the doctor Tuesday so I will ask her then about it. New medication never even ran through my mind, I'm almost positive that is what it has to be.
You all rock =]
A friend of mine just had a negative test after 1 week of late period.
After a week the test was positive, she is pregnant.
Also, I have heard that a tubal pregnancy can have a negative result.
I would make an appointment w/doctor, and go from there.
are you on birth control?
Did you recently go off or did you miss a few pills?
I would wait another week and if your period still doesn't come I would take another test.
I tested when I was 4 days late and got a negative, 3 days later peed a positive! if you are prego, you could just not have enough of the hgc hormone in your system to make that extra little pink line appear.
however, I will say that blood pressure meds can totally mess with your cycle. In fact, really anything new you start can do it. I missed a period once just from being on amoxicillin!
the rule of thumb from my doctor is to test every other or ever 2 days until you get a period or positive result, like pp said. if nothing comes after a few weeks, I'd call the gyno and just see if they want to take a look at you, or even if they want to do a prego blood test, which can sometimes give better results than an at home test.
either way, you'll be fine
and heck, if it's really just from your new meds, enjoy this month of no Aunt Flo!
Thanks for all the advice ladies!
I am actually not on birth control right now. I went off of it back in February. That is when I found out my blood pressure was high & they told me to go off of it for a month to see if that was what was making it high. So I went back & it was still high so they told me they couldn't give me anymore at the time until I went to see my family doctor about my blood pressure. So I went to see about that & she wanted to start me on the blood pressure medicine & told me to stay off of the birth control pills for right now. She said that they most likely didn't cause my high blood pressure but that they don't really help the situation either.
