Where is the best place to buy produce?

Other than the supermarkets where do you buy your fresh produce

Re: Where is the best place to buy produce?

  • Our CSA; we supplement it with purchases from our farmer's market.
  • Farmer's market at headhouse square
  • we go to produce junction sometimes, especially if we are having people over and need a large amount of produce.  for easter I had to buy 10 pounds of sweet potatoes for my family and 6 pounds of russet, 4 pounds of asparagus, etc... it was much cheaper to buy from there than a store!

  • While it is a supermarket, Whole Foods typically has amazing produce.  I also buy a lot of my produce at the Farmer's Market in Ardmore or Reading Terminal if I am in the city.  There is a also a little produce store walking distance to my house that is fairly good if I need something last minute.  Let us know where you live and work and maybe we can suggest some local spots for you.

  • The produce at my Whole Foods is usually good and lasts like it was reasonably fresh.

It depends on where you are.  The FM at Headhouse is great, and huge, there is another much smaller FM that takes place in Fairmount on Thursdays in the afternoon/evening and they always have good produce, and super cheap as compared to the supermarket.  I think I was getting like 4 tomatoes for a dollar last year...

I am soooooooo excited for this.  It's on Sundays, which is nice because it's typically when I do our grocery shopping for the week.  And it's just a few blocks from my house!  Let me know when you go and I'll meet you there :)
