What hospital are you delivering at? The baby factory, aka Northside

Are going to find out if it is a boy or girl? absofriggenlutely, I do not have the patience to wait

Have you thought of names yet? H and I really have very different tastes in names so we've agreed to not even talk about until we know what the gender is. . . no point in arguing over names we won't need!

Are you sharing names? H is pretty adamant about keeping it a secret but I suck at secrets like that so most likely all my friends will know what the name is but I'll make H think I'm keeping it a secret!!  =)

Any nursery ideas? None.  I'm waiting til we know what it is to even start thinking about it.

Please help all of us who are trying to live vicariously through you.

  • what names do you like??

  • I really don't have a clue when it comes to names.  If it's a girl I always wanted Lillian Michelle. . . Lillian is my grandmother and Michelle is my best friend who was killed in a car accident when I was younger.  Lillian has become WAY too popular now (along with Lilly) so I don't want to use it anymore.  Although I do still want to use Michelle as a middle name and H told me he probably wouldn't fight me too much on that one.

For boys I really don't know.  One of my friends at work is going to bring me a baby name book so I can get some ideas.

  • Squeeeeeeee! I'll say this though in regards to names, because I've seen this happen a LOT. Don't tell people the name in advance unless you can handle their honest, and sometimes rude opinions. This scenario just happened with BF's sister who is expecting:

Rudeassperson:: so, do you have any girl names?

SIL:: yes, we really like Aranea. ( don't ask, yes it's an awful name, they're really into Greek mythology. Their cats are named Achilles and Bersaeus)

Rudeassperson:: Ew! Are you kidding? That's horrible! You're joking right? Please say you're joking.

SIL:: (obviously hurt) No, I'm serious, we love it.

Rudeassperson:: I am sorry, but that is just terrible. I'll pray you will do the right thing and change your mind. What a cruel thing to do to that innocent child.

While I agree with rudeassperson, I would never say it, I'd just think it to myself and judge silently, LOL. So while I don't think you'd pick anything weird, people will still say to your face if they hate the name. He'll, I've heard "Sarah?? Ew, don't name her Sarah! I knew a girl named Sarah and she was a nasty slut. Don't name her Sarah for goodness sake." People can be real stupid arseholes sometimes.

didn't this happen with smyningsbride and sweet baby harlie???
  • Yes, I remember that. Her own family were rude jerks to her face if I recall. While Harlie is unique, it's not weird or cringeworthy, it's not like she's going to get picked on at school for it.

    i think it's a beautiful name!!
  • We didn't tell anyone Emaline's name... drove everyone nuts :)

I figured it was just weird enough to get someone to say something snarky.

We only told our mothers and siblings about the name and my sister-in-law (dh's sister) was clear that she wasn't enthralled with it--no regard for the fact that she's named for my dad, Harlan, who died in 2008.  That said, I wouldn't have even remembered that that happened--once the baby is born and she's happy and healthy all is forgiven!

FTR, I was not criticizing the name by saying it was unique, I <3 Harlie. :)

This is precisely why we're not telling anyone the names we're thinking of.  People will say anything about the name to your face before the baby's born, but once there's a real, live baby attached to the name, they'll only talk about it behind your back.

American-Israeli friends of mine used to deal with the questions by saying they were thinking of naming the baby Osnot or Moran (both lovely names in Hebrew).  Usually shut people up in shock.

i love this. we won't tell the hubs =)

and while i agree about the "not telling people the names you've picked"....my shady pregnant friend told us the name they're thinking of for a boy and it's half HORRID, and half the name i like for a boy.

    IT'S A LOSE LOSE PEOPLE!!

  • nymbler.com is a great baby name website.

I kind of didn't mind the comments people had when I shared the names we were planning on using.  If anything it helped me be more confident once I was set on the name. I will admit that I ended up naming my kids rhyming names and I was surprised that no one really tried to talk me out of it, if anything, people talked me INTO it.  (Emma Layne and Tessa Jayne, FTR)

One of my good friends growing up was named Cassidy Layne and I always LOVED her name.  I love the middle name Layne.
