Re: heartbroken

  • Awww. I'm so sorry! That is sucky. I'm sure your family will be there for you. Is there any possibility of him getting some leave time?

sadly, no. there is no such thing as leave from overseas unless the deployment is over 365 days. this one will be less than that, but no easier :(

  • I really feel for our service men and their wives/families.  You guys have to make so many sacrifices.  It really is horrible that he won't be there for your baby's birth but just know that many of us really, really, admire your husband for what he does and you for being strong enough to have to face things like this.  Not many women would be so willing to make those sacrifices.  I am sorry that you have to go through this though :(

  • He can't take his fraternal leave? Or will he already be out too long? Hope his time away isn't too long. I'm sorry to hear about this.

    ditto.

Val, I'm so sorry!! I want to reach through the computer and give you a hug Left Hug - and then fly out to be with you when the baby is born! There is still lots of time between now and the due date - I hope things work out in the end and that Derek will be able to be there.

I hope you both have great family support to lean on.

There is no such thing as fraternal leave during a deployment. The only time it's ever possible is if the deployment is over 365 days, in which case the unit can arrange for their 2 week in-between leave to be around when the baby is due. Luckily Derek won't be gone that long, but unluckily it means he will miss the birth for sure.

Thankyou for all the kind words and support ladies. It's so wonderful to know I have friends like you who "hug" me when I need it most :)

  • So terribly sorry to here this Val. You are being so strong through all of this! I'm glad he won't be away too too long, but it sucks he won't be around for baby. I guess that just means you get lots of extra time with your little bundle all to yourself (trying to look on the bright side lol) Smile

     lots of 'Hugs'

Both of these... I'm so sorry Val, this must be so hard for both of you. I know you never would have imagined you would be one of the wives whose husband will not be home. I'm up for a trip to WA, though :)

  • oh Val, my heart is breaking for you and Derek.  That is just awful and I bet he is just as upset as you are.

Like the pp said, we all greatly admire both you and Derek for the sacrifices you are making for our country, it is amazing.

    ::hugs::

  • Oh, how disappointing!  Sad  Sorry that you're having to deal with this!

  • I'm so sorry to hear that, Val! You're such a strong woman. You and Derek have to make so many sacrifices. I really admire you guys :)

I'm sure you'll have family to support you, and we'll be here cheering you along as well. I know it's absolutely no replacement, but know that you will have tons of support.

  • Val, that's awful.  My heart goes out to you guys.  Please let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do.

  • Val, I am so incredibly sorry to hear this news.  I can't imagine how upset you and Derek must feel finding out this news.  You truly are such a strong woman though so I know you will do great!  You are very lucky that your parents will be able to be there and that you have some good close friends to support you.  Hang in there and please know that we are all here for you.  Sending lots of hugs and thoughts your way!!

That is so sad.  I am sad for both of you.  I can't believe they don't allow paternal leave.  Even MLB allows it now!  I thought military personnel did get it.  Stay strong!  When does your hubby leave?

The Military does allow paternal leave, but only when they are in the country. It's much different during deployments because at that point, duty and country come first, and it's just unrealistic for them to allot the the leave time on deployments less than a year.

Unfortunately, I can't really say when he's leaving, where he's going or when he'll be back. I know you ladies will understand, it's a security thing not to post that stuff in order to keep Derek safe!
