Going to Disney!

Most of you probably saw on FB, but we have decided to go to Disney in July!! We were planning to go to North Conway for 2 nights and do Day out with Thomas and Storyland, but have decided to take a leap and go for it! (We'll go to Thomas in Boothbay and take a day trip to Storyland instead.)

I feel the need to write out our rational, because this is very unlike me to make a sudden decision and plan a trip less than 3 months ahead! We were trying to see if we could go somewhere around Christmas, but DH can't really get more time off and it just wasn't going to work out. Plus we plan on TTC this summer, so who knows where will be with that process throughout the year and if everything works out and we do have another we probably won't go on a vacation with 2 kids for at least 3 years.

So, since DH already took vacation time in July, the prices are affordable w/ it not being a peak time and Eli still being free to get into the parks and eat at buffets, etc. It came down to North Conway for 2 nights would be 1/3 the price of Disney for 5 nights. Obviously costing more, but you only live once but it seems worth it! DH and I have both been to Disney before, so we are going to keep plans and expectations to a minimum and follow Eli's interests and mood.

Flying with a toddler totally scares me, so any advice anyone has around that would be great!

Helen thinks flying is the best thing ever!

Pack snacks, toys, and keep a change of clothes easily accessible.  It's basically the same as taking a long car trip.

  • How exciting.  I am flying with the boys in November, and it scares the crap out of me!

  • Your justification is very reasonable.  :-)  Have fun!
  • I know we're lame, but Disney is our favorite place in the world! Where are you staying? How fun!

  • I'm so excited for you guys. Having it be a little spur of the moment makes it that much more exciting. I hear ya on flying with a toddler, Caroline and I are flying back home to SC this Summer and I' nervous!
  • You will have a great time!  My best advice for flying with a toddler is to just resign yourself to accept whatever happens, because there is really nothing that you will be able to do about it.  If people on the plane get pissed or annoyed, who cares?  YOU ARE GOING TO DISNEY!

  • Thanks everyone. Yes, I am totally ready to accept whatever happens and am ready for the meltdowns (from any of the 3 of us!) Really going to work to go with Eli's flow and not set up expectations to do certain things at certain times, etc. We are staying at All Star Sports.

  • Have fun!  We have a HUGE trip planned for the boys 5th birthday (it falling near school vacation is super helpful!!) including my parents and DHs parents... and BIL and his fiance and her daughter... I can't wait because we love Disney...

I am trying to figure out how to get a weekend trip in for DH and I sometime in the near future for just the two of us before that huge trip.

  • Not sure if you'd be interested in this, but for a few years we rented points from Disney Vacation Club members to stay at the Villas at Wildernesss Lodge. It is a boat ride from the Magic Kingdom and on the same property as the deluxe resort Wilderness Lodge. It's also nice because they have a little kitchenette with a fridge. We calculated the savings and it would have been the same cost as staying at a value resort. I can give you more info if you'd like!

I'm intrigued by this!  Can you send me the info?  I've looked at the villas for our inevitable visit because I like the idea of having a kitchen and separate bedrooms.

I'm interested in hearing more! I have stayed at a variety of Disney hotels before at all levels, including Wilderness Lodge (love!), and went back to a value resort this time since we are trying to keep the costs as low as possible. This idea sounds interesting though! We booked a package including park tix and dining that you can only do as a resort guest- do you think we would still be able to do that at the Villa? I'd love to hear more info- my email is sbtibbetts at gmail dot com. Thanks!!
