I am able to get a new phone very soon and I don't know if I should hold out for the mystery iphone 5 release this summer with Verizon or decide on a smartphone now. I've read it could be summer or it might be late fall for the iphone.
I am looking at a couple Android phones too but don't need 4G (not available where I live) and heard the Thunderbolt sucks on battery life. My main complaint with the Android phones. I like the swipe texting feature on the Android phones too, but I like how user-friendly the iphone is. Sigh.....

Re: iphone 5
I am having the same dilemma right now. Last night DH said he read something about the Iphone 5 not being released until the holidays!! We were planning on upgrading our phones and switching to Verizon asap. I'm not sure how much longer I can take this 3G phone.
I feel your pain right now
We just plan to wait it out...
I'm waiting to see what happens with the t-mobile (my current provider) and at&t merger. If it happens, then I can get an iphone without switching companies. I probably won't get the 5 though, I'll get the 4 with 16mb because it will be cheap by then.
Currently the 3 is only $49 b/c they want to get rid of them, they'll do the same with the 4 later in the year. I wish they'd come out with a date, I've read June and September so far.
We just went through this too...and it took me a week to make a decision. We ended up staying with Tmobile. I got the Samsung galaxyS. Its a touch screen like the iphone, but with the customizableness of the android OS.
I liked the iphone but really like the Android OS, and like that I can customize my screens and widgets.
H looked into the iphone5 and didn't think the changes would be so amazing they were worth waiting for.
GL!
