Hi!! I have a photog question for you. I am in the market for a speedlight ( i think?). I hate my cameras flash, it produces so much shadow. So i think the purpose of a speedlight is to correct this, right? i try to avoid the flash whenever possible but when i bump up my iso my pictures become noisy. so, do i need a speedlight? tia for your photography wisdom!
Re: *Jen&Louie*
First, oh my goodness your new siggy pic is fantastic!!! What a doll
Yes, when used corectly a speedlight will give great interior shots without the shadows. The key is really learning to use it, which takes a lot of practice. I got mine for Christmas and have just been playing around with very mixed results. It's definitely not a add-and-shoot deal.
If you decide to get one, make sure that it swivels in different directions. A fixed exterior flash will produce the same shadows as your on-board camera flash. The point is to bounce the light from the flash off of a bright surface (such as a white ceiling) to illuminate the subject and the space - wrapping everything in the light and eliminating shadow. That's the best I can describe it, in any case.
Do you shoot with Canon or Nikon? For Canon, I went with this flash that is very well reviewed and came highly recommended by many photogs I know and the photog message board on the bump (lots of pros there).
Before I got the speedlite I was using a flash diffuser to soften the on-board flash which you might want to try first. I'm trying to remember the brand and can't off-hand...
Canon 50D, Canon 50mm f/1.4, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, Speedlite 430EX II
And Thanks!!!! Same to you!
